I just got a new slider tonight, and the contact/Url trick isn't working

I just got this, and I'm doing exactly what everyone is saying to do, but It does nothing when I highlight it and push send. Does anyone have any suggestions?? I got the phone specifically because of this option but its not working. Are there any other ways to access wap?? I cannot get the waptunnel IP to work in the browser settings menu. Please HELP!!!!!!

what are you trying? look just go to contacts, add new, url, type in wim.aol.com NO HTTP. should say contact saved after you type in the name, then just go in your contacts and highlight AIM or whatever you named it. press ok then move down one until your over wim.aol.com and press talk. its that easy

sorry if this is bad gramatically, im really tired!

BTW i couldnt use my browser for a few hours when i first activated it. it had to synch(sp?) up or something, so maybe that was your problem

I understand, and do exactly that, but when I highlight it, and press send ( Green phone button) My phone doesn't do anything at all. I know I'm doing it right because I walked the tech support girl at vm through it and it worked fine for her. My software version is nu1.0.10 though, so I'm wondering if they have disabled this feature on the newer slyders. Is there anyone out there that has the same version software on their phone that has accomplished wap?? If so please let me know

Damn, I hope thats not the case, I just bought a slider off of ebay. Is there different packaging (like the vox8500) or did they wise up to that trick? lol

Where do you live, where did you buy the phone? If you live in a big market like NY or LA they may have just released these...i wonder how long before christmas they managed to do it...

There has got to be SOME way to erase everything on your phone and write it with the older software copied from a "good" slider.

The packaging is the same. I live in topeka, Ks so the market is not as big as what la or ny would be. and I'm hoping that I can figure out how to access wap through the IP menu. I've been trying Waptunnels Ip and port, but have not been sucessfull with it yet. Anyone know any other good wap IP's?

I haven't hear of anyone that was able to get wap tunnel to work on their slider with VM.

The wap contact trick only works of you use VM's servers. Not wap tunnel's...

So, use the original IP's that were in the phone, and make sure you verify the encryption key in the browser. (load up VirginExtras and it will ask to verify automatically.)

Then you should be able to use the wap contact trick.

Well, I tried the contact thing with the default vm settings and when I push send, my phone does nothing, not even try to hook up, so I'm thinking they updated their software to disable this feature. ( Hopfully not though !! )

but before you tried the contact trick, did you connect to the virgin xtras? you have to do that at least once before trying the WAP access.

can someone completely verify this?.. it seems way too early for VM to change their software b/c the slider was just released 2 months ago... is anyone else experiencing this problem?... please reply .. pe@ce

yeah, i can get the xtra's fine, no problem. but when i select the url contact, my phone does nothing. it doesn't even try to connect. its not that i get errors or anything, my phone just stays at the contact screen

my software version is nu1.0.10, and yours is probably nu1.0.10. believe me i'm not doing anything wrong. I walked the VM tec girl through the exact same process and it worked fine for her, so I know I'm doing it right

She was connected to the wap.oa.yahoo.com site in about 2 seconds, and she didn't even know you could do that with the phone

I live in NY and I got my slider from the virgin megastore. It has nothing to do with coverage area. maybe she disabled it off of yours

What I don't get is that everyone from VM that I've talked to has said that all of the software is exactly the same.( Including the software tech guys)

Hi,

What you need to do is (a) open the contact, (b) select the URL, then (c) press Dial. If you select the contact and press Dial, nothing happens. Open the contact, scroll down with the arrow keys until the URL is highlighted, THEN press the Dial key.

Then again, they might have changed it. Mine is 1.0.00 as well.

I KNOW FOR A FACT NOW . THEY BLOCKED WAP ACCESS TO THE NEW SLYDERS. I JUST EXCHANGED MY SLYDER THAT HAD THE NEW NU1.0.01 FOR AN OLDER ONE THAT HAS THE NU1.0.00 AND THE PHONE WITH THE OLDER SOFTWARE HAS NOT HAD ANY PROBLEM WITH WAP WHATSOEVER. THE ONE WITH THE NEW SOFTWARE I COULD NOT GET WAP WITH IT FOR THE LIFE OF ME. THEY HAVE ALREADY BLOCKED OUT THE WAP ACCESS ON THE NEW ONES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's not true, cause I tried the WAP trick on my sisters slider and it wont work! And she has NU1.0.00 and it wont work on her phone.

may i ask why did you call tech support about an ILLEGAL trick. i think if virgin mobile wanted to give free internet, they'd advertise it. THINK!

Actually, the girl I talked to didn't think it was illegal, she thought it was a normal option your supposed to get. believe me, if I thought I was going to get into trouble as a result, I would not be talking to them about it. Sometimes you just have to be smarter than the person on the other end of the line

You can believe whatever you want about the wap problems. I'm only talking from personal experience, the newer ( 1.0.10 )one DID NOT work. The older one connected first try. ( 1.0.00 )

I still do not believe that the contact list trick is not working. You said you changed the browsers IP address. VM has NEVER worked with waptunnel.

I just think you dicked up the phone you had, then are flipping out because it has a different software version. Even if that was the case, being able to initiate a session from the contact list is not something VM is going to remove. It makes the contact list POINTLESS then.

Did you try to initate a call in the same manner? Did you try to change your IP settings back, and verify your encryption key? Did you tell VM tech support that you changed the IP settings when you called them?

Alot of what you posted is not very clear.

If it were really that big of a deal to VM, they would just cut us off at the source. They can, and most likey will, filter out all other internet useage to our phones. No reason to update all their product for that one simple trick. Alot of money is lost to just modify that one particular instance.

Personally, I think VM knows we are using internet on our phones, and are using that information to decide on wether or not to add it as an "official" service we should pay for.

If they want to stick it to us, they can. Very easily, and with out any extra expenditures.

Never mind, I just got it working. I forgot to take off the "www" part of the URL.

vm knows of the hack they sent a text message to me today from (noreply@vmobl.com) only saying, "THIS IS A WARNING" i dont know what this means but the only thing i have done to the phone the the WAP hack , i dont even have ringtones on it yet... does this mean we are all screwed????

if virgin does block free wap then civic is a even bigger *** than i thought. he really needs to be banned. that way if we find something else big we wont have to worry about him discovering it and telling vm. whos the mod on this board?

heh i was wondering if there is a sure way of knowing that the phone has version nu 1.0.0 just by looking at the outside of the box? any one know, going to hit up the local target to see if they have any of the old ones

just found my box for a version 1 phone.. doesnt appear to have any indication of version 1. maybe the UPC code its 36182 00210 other than that theres the phone's ESN number on the bottom of the box and SKU there as well.
