Prolific data cable probs!

Hey guys, I know that this question has probably been mulled over a few times but I have a prolific usb to serial comm cable, using the pl-2303 drivers that were supplied and it won't work with Handset manager to upload the pics to my pc!
Has anyone had similar problems??
Does anyone know how to resolve this, I have tried resetting the com ports to com4 so that it can be recognised yet it still doesn't work!
Do I have a duff cable?? It is recognised by the PC, and the phone but no data transfer!
