FAQ: Aircraft Check and Quick EEPROM

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: izibo

First of all, thank you to 7-endless for initially posting information about this application. In reading through the threat I noticed that many people were having problems with getting everything to work, so I figured I would make a big "to-do" list in order to make things work As always, I am just providing instructions, if you screw something up I will try to help you, but I make no promises! Also, this will work for almost all Siemens handsets (except SX1 of course). Not just the M55!

First of all, you will need the following:

1) A USB Data cable that is capable of charging the phone. (Not positive whether you need this, but the authors website says you do)
2) Drivers for that cable (either from the mfgr website, or on CD)
3) Siemens Quick EEPROM Features 3.21 (other versions will do, but this FAQ uses 3.21)
Siemens Quick EEPROM Features 3.21
4) You will also need to download some extra OCX files for Windows to run the program correctly. (Not all users may have to do this... I think Windows 98/me is ok, but I don't have a 98 machine to test)
Windows System Files
Also, to decompress the RAR file you need WinRAR. I would have made a zip file, but that archive is not mine and I don't have anywhere to host a zip
5) A compatible phone. According to the author, the following phones are compatible, but others (such as S56, SL56, etc) should be compatible, but no promises!
C45/S45/ME45/S45i/M(T)50/C55/S55/SL55/M55

After you have accumulated your supplies, you will need to do the following.

1) Decompress and drag all of the files in the "knihovny.rar" archive to C:\Windows\System32 One or two of the files may already be installed, so you do not have to replace them. Also, depending on your OS it may look like C:\WinNT\System32
2) Insert your USB Driver CD-ROM, or uncompress your downloaded drivers.
3) Insert your USB Cable. The "Find new hardware wizard" should pop-up. It should be able to find the drivers, but in the event that it cannot find the drivers, you will have to navigate to them under advanced mode.
4) Restart your computer.
5) Next, you must determine which com port you are using. To do this right click on My Computer and select properties. Then, click the hardware Tab, and then select "Device Manager" In Device Manager, find the "Ports" root, and click on the plus sign. Find your USB Cable and write down the port number in the parenthesis (COM1), (COM3), (COM5), etc.
6) Turn off your phone, and plug the phone into the USB Cable.
7) Launch "Siemens Quick EEPROM features"
8) There will be a series of check-boxes. Select whichever you want, but most likely you will want "Enable "Band Selection" menu" and/or "Disable AeroCheck". In addition, you must select your Com port under the "Port" pull-down menu.
9) After you are all-set to go, press the start button.
10) Turn your phone on, as it initially turns on, you should see "Service Mode" appear for half a second. This means you are successful!
11) Pat yourself on the back for a job well done!

Troubleshooting

Some of the most common problems are listed below.

1) When you attempt to launch the QuickEEPROM program, you get a message that "Mscomm32.ocx" is missing. If this is the case, go up to step 1 and make sure that the three files are listed under C:\Windows\System32
2) You may get a message when selecting the Com Port that it is already in use. Make sure that no other programs are open which use the Serial Ports (like Palm Desktop), restart the computer, and try again.

Other

1) What is "Enable DES"? See next post

That is about it, if anyone else gets anymore error messages, just post or PM me, I should be able to help And hopefully we can make this a sticky so we keep all of the "How do I disable aircraft check" threads to a minimum.

1) What is "Enable DES"? Enabling DES enables Java (or has somethings with Java working, I'm not sure). I know that C55 users can use Java by selecting Enable DES and Enable DevMenu.

Enable DAS Gives you chance to see your phone in browther/use it like a disk without running Data Suite.
Hope it was usefull inf. Thanks.
And thanks for your FAQ

Thank you! You fixed all my problems with that damn program!

Posted by: play2win

Where is this option located?
I would like to attach the cable and see the phone content like a disk

Posted by: izibo

It is the first option on the left in the Quick EEPROM program

Posted by: play2win

why dev menu for c55? I left this unchecked when I did mine.
What does this do?

It brings up the age old rule... if you don't know what it is, you probably don't need it.

Seriously though, it activates the developers menu for the C55. You probably don't want to tinker in there unless you know what you are doing though.

With the old phones you could actually tune them to listen to conversations, like the old motorola startac phones, I wonder if there is a way to put the m55 in to test mode to listen to particular channels. That would be a really neat trick!

nicely done ^^

that would, but I doubt Quick EEPROM could do it

How do I go about doing this? Do I plug the phone in, then turn it on.

Thanks.

Posted by: izibo

You would have to have installed drivers / software

Perhaps the siemens data suite could work.

Posted by: play2win

I would like to delete the folder with the operator logo's that can't be seen by the M55 unless it is directly hooked up to the pc. Can someone provide the program I need to do this with and the exact steps. Thanks.

The weird part is that when i disable my AeroCheck, i also lose the connectivity i had with my computer via serial port and the siemens Data Exchange Software...I can get it back by using the Siemens Java Enabler...which seems to be made by the same person but i cant get both to be on simultaneously...

Any ideas?

Can't say I have heard of that one, have you tried the newer (3.3) version of the software by any chance?

Posted by: ProzacBob

yeap...it seems that no matter what option i chose on the Siemens tool, even if its just blank...(I've tried every one of them individually) and all the possible pairs...After its done, i no longer can access the phone via DES...

Posted by: qqyy

After I press the power button, i always get an error message saying " Error No2(&HA5)" and then "Stop Statement encounted"

Posted by: qqyy

Can anyone send me their eeprom to me online since i cant do the aircraft check on myphone, i'll flash my phone and ge everything right. i think that software just change some setting in the epprom.

Download patch "Air.txt" save as air.vkp, then apply with V_Klay 2.4+

This patch only for M55 V11

These files are VBruntime files. Windows typically does not include these but if you ever installed a proper VB app you would have these already.

Ohh and I couldn't get the DES switch to work for the SL56, I assume the s56 can't use it either because of the protected file system.

Finally I recommend a slight edit to the faq for newb. Press the power button just briefly. If you hold it too long it won't work.

I had the same problem before, but then I've changed my default language back to English in my window (I set it to chinese b4) and the program worked with no error.

BUT it did not really disable the stupid aircraft check.

well, after I ran the program it said Disable is done and OK. but as I turn on the phone it STILL ask me for confirmation. The only difference is that it changed procedure, it used to ask me to confirm ONCE I turn on the phone and then the logo will shop up AFTER I clicked OK. But now will show the logo first then ask me for confirmation if i hit cancel it will shut down the phone like it will b4.

can anyone help??? I hope that I did not screw up the phone

I guess I've been under a rock for some time; but what are Aircraft Check and EEPROM and what can they do ?

Posted by: alpha tag

ooo it rocks

did my A56->C56 conversion and applied these patches

but what's the enable dual-band selection? how will i know it's activated in the menus etc.?

Posted by: lowbee

Do you need to enable the GSM Band selection menu in order to use your phone outside of North America (i.e. switch manually from 1900 to 1800/900) ?

I will told by a phone retailer that the S55 switch automatically to the appropriate frequency when other frequencies are detected, but I don't know if I can trust this phone retailer.

Is there any expert on this subject who can enlighten me ?

Does anyone here even use their phone outside of their home frequency ? If so, please confirm whether the S55 will switch band automatically or if you have to do it manually.

BTW, my S55 is unlocked but the GSM band selection menu is not accessible.

No you don't. Your phone and the network decide what frequency should be used. Some people just like to have this option, but it's not necessary.
