Post more details.. What type of dongle, what software installed for it, do you have the Ericsson Suite installed? What OS are you using? If your questions are vague, nobody will even attempt to help

Hi,

Not sure if this is the same problem....
but I'm trying to sync my info via bluetooth as well.
What's the best/correct way?

I have a dlink USB Bluetooth adaptor. I ran its CD, connected it to a USB port, and ran it through its setup. Seemed to work fine.
I tuned on Bluetooth on my phone and set it to allow devices to discover it.
When I search for devices on my computer, it can not find anything. When I search to add devices from my phone, it finds my computer. I bond, it asks for a code, then my computer pops up and asks for the code.

Now, when I select "view devices in range" it shows the P900.
From this point on, I can't get it to do anything.
It won't discover services, it won't open, or explore. I try to sync with Sony's program and it errors saying no phone is connected. If I click on the Phone Connection Link property tab, it doesn't show any connection either.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Chris

You might want to try this thread which used to be a sticky. It covers BT (among other ) connections for using your phone as a modem. While that is not precisely your issue, there are pointers there that may help.

Hi,

I appreciate your help, though I couldn't find anything that worked in that thread.

One thing that may be of use...
My network connections has a bluetooth network icon on it, and instead of it being enabled, it says a network cable is unplugged. I'm not sure what is unplugged....the Bluetooth adapter is in the USB port.

I've enabled com ports, disabled them. I have the most up to date versions of my D-Link adapter which is using WIDCOMM Bluetooth software 1.4.1 Build 6.

I can pair the devices, but only when initiated from the phone. If I search for devices from the computer, it won't see the phone. Once they are paired, I can't open or explore. When I try to discover available services, it says no services found.

I've checked the boxes for automatic linkaging in both the phone and the computer.

I've read on my-symbian that some P900's do not have working bluetooth and they need to be exchanged. Is that fact?

Who should I contact to resolve this? Sony or D-link?

This is so frustrating,
thanks,
chris

Can you pair your P900 with another Bluetooth device? This would at least "narrow the field" so to speak.
Is your P900 listed as a device in the "Phone Monitor Options" (Control Panel)?
In that tool are settings for com ports that you want to use with your Sony Ericsson phone. Make sure they are not all disabled, especially the com port you are meant to be using with the Bluetooth connection to your phone.
Does your phone connect when in the cradle?

Did you follow the manual to the letter?
Seems quite involved with some catches.. Not saying it will make the difference, but it certainly might. Hope it helps a bit

Code:
Setup a new connection 1. On the first Connection Wizard screen: a) In the Select a Service drop-down menu, select the type of connection that will be established. (The specific service will be selected later, if necessary.) b) In the “Select a device that provides the service” drop-down menu, select the device that will provide the service. (To update the list of devices displayed, click the Search Devices… button.) c) Optional: select the “Require secure encrypted connection” option to enable an Authentication and Encryption for this connection. 2. Click the Next button: • If more than one service of the type selected in the Select a Service dropdown menu (above) exists on the selected device, for example, multiple Bluetooth Serial Ports, then the Select Bluetooth Service dialog box appears. Select the specific service to be used, and then click the OK button to close the Select Bluetooth Service dialog box. • If only one service of the type selected in the Select a Service drop-down menu (above) exists on the selected device, the next Connection Wizard screen appears. 3. If “Require secure encrypted connection” was selected above, a security screen may appear: 18 • To establish a paired relationship with the remote device while using this wizard, enter your Personal Identification Number in the PIN Code field of the security screen, and then click the Next button. • To establish the paired relationship with the remote device the first time this connection is used, leave the PIN Code field blank in the security screen, and click the Next button. • Note: The Security screen WILL NOT appear if the devices have been paired.

Thanks for your help ShovelhEd...

To answer your questions...
I went to Circuit city and played with PDA's. I tried on a palm, a sony clie, and a hp device equipped with bluetooth. Searching on those devices did not show my device ever. Searching for devices from mine did show those other devices.

My phone is listed in the Phone Monitor Options from the control panel. I can connect and sync via USB cradle so maybe it came from there?

In your last post, regarding the wizard...do you mean the Bluetooth Setup Wizard? If I choose the option to "I know the service I want to use and I want to find a Bluetooth device that provides that service" and then choose "Bluetooth Serial port" (which is what I believe should be the right connection), it goes to search and can't find anything. Noticing it is actually searching for computers, I switched to show all devices and it still can never find my phone.

I'm wondering if the Bluetooth reception of my phone is nonfunctional... can that isolated problem happen? I can search for bluetooth devices from my phone, find my computer, establish a bond, and then the icon pops up on my bluetooth places, but when I "discover available services" nothing happens.

So, I called Sony support today... they went through various things, and were very happy that my phone could recognize the ocmputer and my icon popped up on the computer. When I said it still wouldn't sync, she had me check some com port stuff, and then referred me to dlink for bluetooth com issues. Their support never seems to answer (>1 hr waiting so far)... The lady was very chipper, told me how great the phone was, and not to give up on it.

So, I admit I'm confused about com ports. Here's my status....

Under 'phone connection link' taskbar icon, I have them all unclicked except for com 4 which is the bluetooth one. I've tried it also with them all clicked.

Under "phone monitor options" from control panel, My P900 is listed under cellular phone tab. Under com port tab, I have com 4 enabled but not reserved. All the others are disabled (that's what the sony lady had me do).

Under "Bluetooth configuration" in control panel...
I'm using WIDCOMM Bluetooth software 1.4 1 Build 6. Accessibility tab has "let other bluetooth devices discover this computer" checked on. Local services tab had bluetooth serial port on auto setup, required sequre connection adn com4 listed as com port. Client applications has bluetooth serial port listed with required secure connection, but there is not a com port listed.

I think that is about all I can tell you. Nevertheless, the problem seems to be with any device recognizing my phone as a bluetooth device. I certainly do have the phone bluetooth settings set to discoverable.

Any last suggestions before I bombard sony so much I insist on a replacement?

Thanks,
Chris

If its any help I am having exactly the same problem. I use an Ambicom BT USB dongle. All seems to connect 100% - the PC sees the P900, the P900 sees the PC and link seems to be established. However the "My P900" icon which appears on the toolbar (when I connect/synch with the cradle which works perfectly) never shows up and the PC Suite shows the P900 as disconnected and obviously can't synch. The P900 BTs beautifully with a Nokia HDW-2 headset so the P900 BT is OK.
My guess is that for some reason the PC Suite software does not identify the BT connection (which is 100%) and therefore the Synch and other PC Suite functions can't work. try SE for me too!

Actually our problems are different and you seem to be ahead of me. I can not even get my computer to recognize my P900 exists when I do a search for devices from the computer. However, my phone sees the PC.

I've yet to try a bluetooth headset with my phone, don't know anyone with one... but as I mentioned before various pda's are also unable to recognize my phone which makes me think my phone is screwed rather than the computer/bluetooth/com port issue the sony tech is pushing..

Heya..

It is as if your phone is not discoverable.. Do youhave this checked? (I know, might seems silly - but I thought it best to ask)

I read the following at Esato:
Code:
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=44739&forum=35#post598978
Apparently, a guy with the same issues did a firmware upgrade (to the same version) and all was sorted.. Have you flashed your phone?
Might be you do have a HW problem.. Perhaps rather than taking much more time with it, you should simply return it to where you bought it.
Out of interest, which firmware level (CDA) do you have?

Posted by: txemsdoc

Hi,

Yea, I have flashed my phone, but just redid it to make sure... no change.

I have CDA162003/5 R2C01. Is that the most up to date?

A bit of an issue with returning it.. bought it new in the wrapped box from Ebay, from a guy who has some connection to Sony and won it at a Christmas party drawing.

Sony support keeps insisting it is my USB Bluetooth adaptor, but can't explain why other PDA's won't recognize my phone either.
They say they can't exchange the phone since I don't have a reciept nor has it been released in the US. I can't send it to Sony either since it hasn't been released in the US.

I need to find a bluetooth headset to try it as well, but I don't know anybody with one.

That thread at esato (and others) talk about hacking the code and so forth.. I was lost after about the 3rd word.

It would be so nice to have this work....
Chris

It will be released here any time now. It is on their site (US) to "reserve" Hang onto it then once they are selling them ship it for service. DOn't worry about the receipt. It's broken, it's from them, they will honour the warranty.

I've also updated my phone to 162003/5 R2C01 (I guess it is the latest) and also - no change. I am convinced it has something to do with the synchronization software since I managed to send addresses from the phone/contacts to the PC via BT - only the synching is dead. Hint anyone?

Posted by: txemsdoc

djmaven,

how did you send addresses to the computer? I'd like to try it to see if it works for me..

Thanks,
Chris

Posted by: djmaven

set up BT pairing phone=PC
Open Contacts
click on a contact
click upper left "contacts"
click "send as"
send as window opens, click "Bluetooth"
and it flies....

Posted by: txemsdoc

Hmm...

well, that doesn't work for me. The devices are paired...when I search for devices, it finds the computer, I enter in the code, up pops a screen on my computer, and I match the code and the icon comes up on bluetooth neighborhood. Can't open/explore/add services though.

When I tried the above, it says initializing bluetooth and then Failed to transfer entry to home computer.

Oh well..

chris
