i've recently purchased the rpi wireless charging usb data cable for my vx6000. well i can't get it to work on my toshiba tecra 8100 laptop running win 2k. here's what i've tried so far.
installing the included rpi drivers 1.)the LG usb modem driver, 2.)bitpim, 3.)quick link in that order. I hooked up the data cable and for a brief moment so the red triangle light blink. - no dice. My computer never recognized the phone and it doesn't show up in device manager. Running bitpim errors out when I try and "get files from phone"
installed futuredial drivers. - also no dice.
installed generic drivers for prolific usb to seriel included with win2k. a device under "ports" shows up in device manager with the name prolific but it has a questionmark next to it and in properties says "couldn't start device" - no dice.
-other things to note-
i've tried it on two seperate identical laptops. (basically, i pulled out my harddrive and put it in another tecra 8100. both times completely uninstalling and reinstalling the included rpi drivers). - same result on both i.e. phone isn't recognized.
i know the usb port on both laptops are working seeing as how i'm running a usb mouse on each.
i've tried two of the three x1 modes on the phone i.e. USB and RS-232C
i removed all my palm software so that hotsync doesn't get in the way. the only other software i have is for my canon digital camera.
****i tried it on a desktop and it worked. at least i think it worked because i saw the light on the usb cable light up and stay lit. unfortunately i didn't stick around to see if the bitpim worked because it wasn't my desktop. at least it was a sanity test.
any ideas?????????? someone better let me know before i sacrifice a virgin to the cellular gods!

these might sound stupid just their just something to check.
1) Does your labtop have Plug and Play ?
When you plug it in to the USB you hear the computer make a sound OR look into your system tray to see if it is detecting the device.
If not , are you COM ports open ?
as far as bitpim do you have the correct version ? Theres a version made for the VX6000 you need that one . Do a search for it theres a post with like 1000 views you'll see it , the links there.

-my laptop has plug and play. the camera and palm are automatically detected.
-i have a feeling that i'm not even getting up to the bitpim part and that the problem is just getting the phone to be recognized. even the cable light isn't lit and it should be. i read somewhere that the rpi cable wont charge if your laptop is running off of battery so i made sure that it was plugged in and that all the power saving settings were turned off.
my first goal is to have the phone show up in device manager. from there i can jump to step two - bitpim.

so then like you said take it one step at time
When you plug the cable into your computer while the phone in plugged in does it make a sund at all or show in sys tray that new hardware has been detected ?
if not have you tried other COM ports ?

Try powercycling your phone. Turn it off then back on.
I was going crazy till I did that for another reason and all of a sudden my USB connection problems were over.

update
i got my hands on another laptop. it works, and all i needed were the drivers included on the rpi disk. it seems there is something with my laptop. i'm not sure what it could be though? canon's usb drivers maybe?

some people did report having some trouble with certain drivers. Do a search for it on the forum and see what you come up with.
