8900 memory

i was looking over the phone specs and saw something that kind of confused me.
SRAM size: 32 MB
Flash size: 128 MB
so i assume the 32 mb SRAM is the phone operating memory, however, what about the flash? can we store anything there? is that where the operating system is stored?
