My VX-1 Review

Hi Folks,

I've had my VX-1 for 2 weeks now and here are my impressions.

Great coverage in the Bay Area, I live in San Mateo and work in
Redwood City and spend time in SF and SJ and no problems anywhere. Cingular gave me problems at home but now Verizon. I also spent the weekend in Toronto, Ontario and no problems there although when I signed up I was told I was also going to be able to roam data and was skeptical about this and I was right I didn't get any data coverage there but sound quality and service was fine.

The user interface of this phone was a little quirky and took
sometime to get used to but I love the speed I get on data via the 1xRTT network. I use WAP alot and this is a couple of magnitude times better than Sprint or Cingular's network speeds.

The buttons are easy to use and have been able to use them without looking as well.

The beefs I have with this phone are that there are no downloadable ringtones, I was looking for this feature but sacraficed it to get faster data access. Also using the headset with this phone is pretty painful because the rubber cover is difficult to get off. Anyone else have this problem or a suggestion on how to take the cover off. The rubber cover for the car charger is even more painful to use and I'm considering just ditching the cover altogether this is a real hassle, suggestions anyone?

I had a Nokia 5160 before so no data there but my job involves me using phones from many companies and mobile operators so this was definitely the best phone for me based on North American coverage and fast data access.

Cheers,

Nick

The dust plug (the cover on the bottom of the phone for the car charger and data cable) does not have to be there when not in use. I had a TM-510 for the longest time and never had the dust plug after the first day.

Nick,

There will be a firmware upgrade offered by verizon wireless w/i the next 30 days to make the BREW capable. Once you have your phone flashed, You can connect to the BREW server and download ring tones.

i think your info is wrong. the vx10 will be released within the next couple of months, which is brew capable. the vx1 will never be able to be upgraded to be brew.
