So I dont know if this can be "fixed" so to say but wondering if anyone else has experienced the problem. When I get a text message, not email or vm alert, but just a straight up text message, it used to beep, but now it seems it has consistently been ringing as that wierd tone that last about 2 seconds, where it scales from low to high, somewhat cheesy and annoying, i have gone into msg settings and changed every option in there (email alert, page alert, and txt message alert) to "low beeps" or even "high beeps" or just low beep/high beep, still same thing. So I set them all to "silent" STILL it rings that stupid tone, I have the version 7 firmware I believe, have not modified anything on my phone in a while, problem only started about a month ago. Any suggestions?

If you recieve a text message from someone in your phonebook it uses whatever you have set for that specific person. Unfortunatly be default it is set to the ringer 1, and though there is a silent and vibrate option, there is no beep options.
If you have your phone set to manner mode or vib & high your phone will vibrate no matter what it is set to. When your phone vol is set to anything else it will use those settings.
What I've found works for me is the following:
I have most everyone in my phone book set to silent text alert.
The semi important people I have set to vibrate.
The important people I've set to a specific ringer.
I keep my phone on vibrate & high most of the time I'm using the phone. So that during the day text messages get delivered by a short buzz that does not disturb whatever I'm doing. When I go to sleep at night I set my phone to just High, so that any text messages that come through unless they are from the people set to vibrate or a ringer will not wake me up. Often times I'll wake up in the morning to find that several have come though from people getting on IM or even IM shutting off. Things I would've been unhappy to wake up to.
