"Trying to conenct to handset" message on irDA Manager

I purchased an X70 recently and have been attempting to get the irDA Handset Manager working with the IR port on my IBM Thinkpad T21 running Windows XP.

At one point I did have it working and was able to upload some pictures and ringtones, but during one upload it got interrupted. Ever since it has been broken. I bring up irDA Dialup on the X70 and then the Handset Manager on the Thinkpad and it Connects – but once it tries to download any data it disconnects from the handset and I get the message “trying to connect to the handset”.

I have re-installed the software from the Panasonic website and it is running V7.0 Build 310.678 (Oct 2003), but it still has the same issue. I am able to send individual objects to the handset using the Connect Receive Object menu, but when I try to use the handset manager (to for example update my contacts list) it connects, then almost immediately disconnects with “trying to connect to handset” message.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

it appears that under certain situations the handset has trouble communicating with the handset manager software.

it appears to be when there are a lot of objects in the phone, so either a lot of pictures, or ringtones, or possibly messages.

i had this problem when i had about 80-90 pictures in the phone. deleting pictures till i only had 40-50 fixed the problem and the phone could then work with the handset manager software again.

(taking more pictures will stop it working again tho.)

i've notified panasonic, who have replicated this and are working towards a fix.

so, we'll have to wait for a fix or just don't have too many objects in your phone.

Thanks Nigelspowage. Please reply back to this thread when you get a fix and let us know where to retrieve it. Thanks for all of your efforts!

try setting up the transfer rate of your ir port on your lap top, set it to 2400 bits 0r 54k or lower this should help.
