8600 with Verizon: Any way to force it into digital mode?

I have a feeling the Verizon tech is not being completely honest with me. I work in Downtown Boston, and I am pretty sure there is digital signal here, but the phone displays 1X EVERYWHERE. "Force Analog" is not enabled, and I cannot find anywhere how to force digital on the phone. manual provided no clues. Does this phone have digital mode or not? Verizon tech claims "1x" means digital....

Any help on this issue would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Your tech guy was absolutely correct. 1X is digital, not analog mode.

I'll second that. If you get 1x everywhere, you should be one happy camper!

1X is digital.
That's what you want.

And I believe that if you want to force it to digital, the setting HOME ONLY should be it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but my old SAMSUNG manual had me believe that HOME only is digital only in my home area.

I don't know the answer to that for the 8600. I know for my dad's LG 4400 "Home only" has nothing to do with digital/analog because there is a whole different setting for choosing "analog, cell only, CDMA only, etc." On the 8600, I don't know whether "Home only" is equivalent to forcing digital. If anyone knows the answer to that for sure, I'd love to find out.

Anyone know the answer to this? I was told by a tech that this is not possible, but I am skeptical.

As I mentioned in a post about 4 or 5 lines down from this one (the search really does work, ya know), I think you can press ##7738 then END, then select Rev 4 to force CDMA. This 'should' force CDMA digital only. I haven't tried it, but it's worth a try. Let us know if it works.

But, if you're getting 1X everywhere, there's probably no need to do this as you're always getting the best, fastest digital there is.

I will let you know. Thanks for the reply...2x. The reason I asked again, I posted on another site and a tech said that you can not force this phone into digital mode only. Sorry for the repeated question, but I found it hard to believe that a faily new flip phone could not be forced into digital mode. Yes, the search field works great...when you use it. Thanks again.
