What does it mean "flashing" a phone?

When you "flash" a phone with the latest firmware,
it basically means that you're "sending/installing" the latest firmware to the phone.

Incase you didn't know, firmware is the software the phone uses to operate. When the firmware is flashed, new software is installed onto the phone, usually fixing issues with the device.
