Hey guys-
I was wondering how I can transfer my info from the s40 to the SIM card. I'm sending the phone in to Siemens for a firmware upgrade, and I don't want to lose the information on the phone. Thanks, I appreciate the info!

Well the only things you can save on SIM is phone numbers and sms' (how much depends on your SIM).
To save phone#, go to your phonebook/addressbook and select an entry and then press "detail". That should bring up some options, one being "copy". Then copy EACH number into "plain numbers". EACH as in you must copy every number seperately, even if they are in the same entry.
so for Bob, you must copy his home, mobile, fax #'s into seperate individual "plain number" entries.

Use my S40 backup program BUS40. It stores your all calendar events, address book entries, groups and custom ring tones on your PC.
Download here:

The page is in German but the program is in English.

Hi-
I installed the BUS40 software, and managed to get the IR to work when I sent an individual entry. I tried to back up the entire phone's contents using 'Sync and Data', but it timed out and was not successful. can you tell me the steps to correctly backing up my phone entries? thanks!!

You need to install a virtual COM port for IR. See the many instructions on the net. Then select the corresponding port in BUS40.

hi Frank-
I've installed the Virtual IR port on my laptop. Right now I can send individual vcf files to the computer, but it'd take forever to back up all of them one by one. I thought that 'sync and data' under 'irda operation' would be the thing to use to back up the phone, but it doesn't work at all. can you tell me what i should do with the phone to sync with the computer, assuming that the IR port works? thank you so much!

Doesn't sound like you really installed a virtual COM port. It should be COM3 or higher. Select it in BUS40, then everything should work fine.
