Are color screens easier to see?

I'm just curious if color screens are easier to see in all light conditions than the non color backlit screens.

In particular I'm looking at two nokia phones that are pretty much the same aside one has a color screen. I don't care if it's color for that fact alone but I would like to get the one that's going to be most readable in normal to bright light.

Yes, in most cases color phones are easier to view (for me anyway.) The only exception to this is in direct sunlight when some color screens can be hard to see.

Be sure to compare other manufacturer's phones. Nokia is generally one generation back in screens technology.
