I've downloaded the latest Siemens Data Suite software and installed it on my laptop (Win 2000 pro/corporate). I'm trying to establish an IR connection but the Data Suite Software times out and gives an cant connect message.
What I can do is with "Wireless Link" software that is part of Win 2K is send files back and forth to the phone. So I know both IR ports are working and can see each other. I can also do this with my PDA (iPaq 2210).
I've unistalled and reinstalled the Data Suite already so I think the install went fine but I think the software can't find my IR port. Can anyone give me some help/advise?

Not sure if anyone can help much since most of us probably don't use the pro version. Looks like a lot of people have read your post already.
I've installed and used on Win2k (regular version) successfully without any problems.
What's weird is that you say your infrared works successfully.
Have you tried contacting Siemens support?

Yes I've tried Siemens tech support. They advised I use MS ActiveSync 3.7 (Windows CE sync software). Well not thinking too much about during the phone call I said I would give it a try. I use that software to sync my iPaq 2210, anyway. So I went in the connection manger and tried to set-up an IR link. But after abour 15 min I realized no way is this going to work since my S56 does not run on MS Windows CE. Siemens tech support confused me with the SX-56 PDA/Cell combo. So it seemd first tier Siemens tech support is not that usefull.
So I came here next and posted my issue. What I think is the problem is the "Wireless Link" software is taken control of the IR port when a devise is present. That is why I can transfer files but not sync data through the Siemens data suite.
I can't figure out how to diable the wireless link software to confirm my idea. Anyone know how to diable the "wireless link" software of Windows 2K pro?

Are you selecting infrared as the connection for the data suite: Siemens phone icon -> right click -> connect. Perhaps it's defaulting to serial.
Btw, I am indeed using win2k pro.

yes i checked to make sure the data suite software is looking for the IR port.
Do your have the "wireless link" software in your Control Panel. It'll only show up if there is device present in the IR port. Could you check fnln?

I do have the wireless link - it's also what I use to transfer ringtones, etc though lately, I'm using bluetooth instead.
You might want to give that a try.

Well tried to install the Siemens Data Suite software again. The install went normally. Placed the S56 into the IR path and had the "Wireless Link" software find it and connect to it OK. Then started the Siemens software. The software found the phone and sync'd my contacts to it without issue. WTF! I did this same proceedure 3 times a couple of days ago without success and now it works like it should.
My only conclusion is if the Siemens software does not find the IR port or the S56 on the very first attempt to start the software it will not connect properly. So if it doesn't work unistall and reinstall the Data Suite software until it does. Now what a pain in the @SS! At least it seems to unistall without leaving the registray a mess.
If others need help please post here I'll keep eye on the thread and see if I can help. Good Luck!
