Help! Charging probles with Virginmobile 'Vox' 8500

I plug in the charger to charge the phone and it blinks red! I have cleaned the battery before and it did work, but the next time i came to charge the phone it started blinking red!
Anyone have this problem before and have some suggestions on how i could fix this issue?
