Hi, welcome aboard!
Is the GD55 a good phone.....IMO, yes it is, for what it is. It's a very small phone w/ basic phone functions. It does not have a true calendar like on a PDA; to alert you of an event come up. Or does it have voice dialing. And the speed dialing is a bit weird.
It does lose signal at times, you'll see "Searching" on the screen, even though you have 1-3 bars. I guess this is due to how small it is. Other times, it will show no bars but w/ the carriers (Cingular) sig on. I can actually receive & get calls when there are not signal bars.
It's a good phone, very compact. You'll be happy w/ it, as long as who the carrier you have & if the area you are in has good signal strength. Then it will serve its purpose.
I do highly recommend getting a clear case or a Krusell case for the phone. Since it's small, you will most likely have the phone in your pants pocket. With coins, keys & whatever; the phones screen & housing will get scuffed or scratched. Type in "Panasonic GD55" in ebay, you'll find these accessories. They are worth the money if you plan to keep or sell the phone. A good case will keep the phone looking new. Also, I know many people here do not like the antenna booster stickers; I have noticed that it does help w/ signal strength. Hey, for something that should cost a $.50-1.00, it doesn't hurt to have one installed. I have one installed horizontally just above the sim card port.
Also, do a search on a google, you'll find sites for free ringtone inputs. Do not buy a data cable, it's not worth the money. Also, the GD55 does not have GPRS, but CSD. I don't use this for this phone. I am waiting to receive the G51, a little bit taller, by 3mm than the GD55, w/ a color screen & GPRS.
Since the OEM silver housings screen on mine is scuffed, I am waiting to also receive a new red OEM housing, w/ red keypad, new antenna & battery, all for a low price of $18 plus shipping.
Anyways, enjoy the phone. Give us an update after a couple wks on what you think. You will get attention. People who see the phone have asked me if it has a camera built in. I don't know why they would think such a small phone would have a camera. Anyways, they are amazed how small a phone it is.

Totally agree with Ghostrider, I love the phone...
I had great reception with it and I love the looks of it more than the new models
And yes make sure you get a case for it, cus stuff happens like he said or you could ware it aroudn your neck cus that's what I used to do
Anywho great phone, not enough features but it gets the job done!
