Clarification on the VM Slider free WAP thing

I know everyone is probably sick about being asked this, and I have done a search and read other threads, but I am still confused. Some people are saying the new phones with the new software revision won't work. One thread sounded like they would. I just want some clarification on what the actual deal is. Thanks in advance.

And yes, this will be the only time I post asking this. I'm not going to spam the boards, unlike some people.

Well I got a VM slider.At Target, they had 6 of the 6901 esn phones.

Okay, go to menu-contacts-add new-url. Then type http://wap.google.com. Name it Google. Then it shows a screen that says"Options" and under that it should say:http://wap....
highlight that and hit the "call" button or the green phone button. It will only connect on the older ones though

yeah, that is exactly how it works. I got lucky and target had one of the older ones. free WAP is great, except for the not being able to DL ringers and wallpapers. Oh well, can't really complain

need to look at the bottom of the box at the esn # if it says 06901 or 06903 then yea you have a browser version 1.0.0 but if it says 06905 run like hell
*( i have heard of some of the 06905's to have brower 1.0.0 but most have the newly updated 1.0.10, take your chances on this one if you want)

btw i wouldnt be suprised if virgin decided to recall these phones kinda what tracfone did when they found out about the free free minutes for the 5125 phone they had

actually i talked to virgin and they said something like 06926 er something
funny, they help me do an illegal trick
the lady also said they cant update the new phones

well i dont have the phone but my bro does and virgin gave him those numbers
he did get a 06903 because it was the lowest one at bestbuy just to be safe

I tried this trick on my slider from TARGET with the ESN starting with 06905 and it worked fine! I'm happy it did because i don't know if i could live w/o the free wap like i had on my old AUDIOVOX cdm-8500 from VM.

last night i went and bought a slider @ best buy and now i learn about free web.. i looked @ the esn and its 06905 but it still works!!!

its software version is 1.0.00 i love this phone!

Where do you guys suggest looking for the free WAP models? There's a Virgin Mobile Store near me, would they still have them?...or would they have already taken the free WAP phones off the shelves? Alllllso, would it be worth going on ebay to look for one?

ehhhh idk really, it's placed inside of a college bookstore, and I don't know the size of it, whether it's just a section of the store, or what...Anyway, would I have a good chance finding a phone with free WAP there?

Well, just taking a broad look at the subject at hand, I would say that it is very unlikely because Virgin Mobile Mega store are indeed owned by Virgin Mobile, therefore in the event of a product flaw, the stores (if any) owned by the business (in this case Virgin Mobile) are usually:

A. The first to be informed

B. The first to receive the updated product

C. The First to remove the flawed product from shelves

Therefore, one could conclude that it would be highly unlikely to purchase one of the earlier flawed phones at the Virgin Mobile Mega store in question (or any for that matter).

Although, you have to include another factor. We are taking about the exact same cellular company that released not only one, but two flawed versions of a phone. With that considered, one could possibly say that instead of a rating of highly unlikely could be revoked to very unlikely (in my opinion).

Also, one could possibly say that since Virgin Mobile key demographic is teens, there will probably be future flawed phone version that allow this or even better exploits. I say that because although they know some of their customers have wits about them, the majority of their customer (teens) are not AS technically savvy in the field of cellular exploits. All businesses have to stay on a certain time line, and with the flocks of emails and phone calls about new phones and what not, they have to adjust there time to be a bit faster, ever so slightly. Eventually they are going so fast (knowing how impatient there key demographic can be) that there would be silly errors in the phone's software programming.

My VM Slider has it's ESN Number at 06908xxxxxx...and free WAP works. 08? That sounds new, lol.

Software Revision NU1.00.00, though.

06908? Whaaaaaaa? Well it looks like the odds are in my favor, seeing as though there are 3 versions of the slider that work with free WAP, and only one that doesn't. I'M GOING TO TAKE MY CHANCES! WOOT!

I also would like to add to my previous post.

Most retail establishments hire more teens than any other age group. This I do to the increased profit margin, since teens are willing to be paid lower wages. Therefore, it is even more likely you could purchase a flawed slider at a VM Megastore, on the behalf of careless teens

I just bought a couple of 06901's and thought Awesome!!

But I first went to look at the software Version and it was 1.0.14, so how did they manage to do that?

Unless the were able to recall them, fix them, and send them back out..

Then there must be a way to re program them, with the 1.0.00

Hey guys I have a SE 47 and the bar code on the back starts D:06901, I assume that these are highly sought after. I'm new to the SE 47 and don't even know what WAP is. The one I have is about 7 months old, I didn't up my minutes for 4 months after they ran out and Virgin considers it "inactive" and said I would have to get a new phone, which is a rip off. I have read the forums and figure I can change over to Verizon or "flash" it. If any of you "techies", know how, let me know or I would sell or trade it for a working/activated SE47 that I can use, since it will take some asking and effort to get this one flashed, it is NOT locked!
