Hello everybody. I own an LG VX6000 with service from Verizon. I was wondering if anybody could assist me in something. I want to learn how to upload my own ringtones to my phone, but I am clueless in how to do so.

I know I need some sort of cable to connect my phone to my computer. Could someone please tell me what the name of the cable I need is? Also, if anyone knows of a good website with steps on how to upload your own ringtones, I would greatly appreciate that as well. Or if anyone would be kind enough (and has the time) to type out the steps, that would be great as well.

Sorry for sounding like such a newbie, but we all have to start somewhere, right? Thanks very much in advance for any replies.

Trying using the "SEARCH" button. That should keep you busy for a while.

Start here:

http://www.tomtracey.com/vx4400_faq.htm

http://bitpim.sourceforge.net/

Radio Shack has the cable. 17-783 is the part number. It's made for the VX10.

DO NOT get the cable for the VX4400 / VX6000.

Also make sure your cable is the Serial-2-USB with the "lump" in the middle of the cable. If you get the straight cable you'll have issues.

But medieval1, I have the VX6000. Not the 4400. Are the links you provided good for the 6000 as well?

You can also get ringtones onto your phone without cable. Just log on to Verizon Wireless Website, and send the ringtone to your phone via vzwpix. Just be sure to create an account online and upload the midi file from your pc. Then send the message -with ringtone attached - to yourphonenumber@vzwpix.com

Make sure the midi file is less than 30K. When you receive the message, just select the option to save it. Don't worry about it playing for the first 3 secs. Just go to your Media Files and select the ringtone as a Caller ID. You should be able to hear the full midi from there.

I don't want to get the cable yet, becuz I rarely send ringtones and pictures. At most, I'm just gonna upload 3 - 5 ringtones and wallpapers. Until they come out with a hack for free GIN Games, I'm just gonna sit on it.

I'm with you, I don't feel I need a cable for the few things I'm doing w/my phone (VX6000) ... I have the 20 picts/month for $2.99 option.

Let me get this straight ... you have to send the ringtone from your VZ Pix web page to your phone (using the "mynumber@vzwpix.com") ... I've had 1 ringtone be successful that way . I've also tried to email from a yahoo or work email acct directly to my#@vzwpix.com and the email comes thru on my phone but w/the attachment dropped.....

Just wondering ... thanks!

Yay - it's now working for me! (sending ringtones from Verizonpix to my phone...I think part of my problem was that I was working on a mac at home! But it works from work! So, I use my peak minutes ... no biggie!

Call Verizon Service and have them check if they have the picture messaging enabled! This happen to someone on here earlier. Verizon forgot to enable the picture messaging on his vx6000.
