8900 voice recognition?

The manual claims that the phone does voice recognition mode. When in voice recognition mode you can say "dial" then say the number and the phone will dial it or say "redial" to redial last number. But all I can get it to do after entering voice recognition mode (holding send key down) is to dial a name I have already programed. Am I missing something or is this all it does? Are pages 88-91 not applicable?
thanks

I have the same problem.. I can't figure it out.. nor can the local Metro PCS store.
I need to use this feature.

I don't see in my manual where it ways that I can dial by number under voice rec and the voice is only asking for the name.
I would think you'd have to train the numbers by voice like the voices to use something like that.
Also, what the heck is "yes", "no" and "wake up" for anyway.
If you activate VR, it ask you for the name and dials it. What else is there?

I have an 8600. Went back to the Verizon store and found out you have to hold down the "Send" key for about 4 seconds. Initially it will display the last number dialed, then it will display VR for voice recognition commands.

This is an 8900 and that doesn't work the same way.. if you hold it down for about 4 seconds.. then it says as the manual says "NAME PLEASE", but the manual shows that you can say "DIAL" and then say numbers that you would like to dial.. that is what we are trying to figure out.

I am glad to know that I am not the only one that reads the manual that way. Please let me know if you figure out how it is suppose to work--that would be a great feature.

I found out how the "yes" and "no" commands are used when voice dialing. After saying a name, the phone sometimes repeats the recorded name and asks if this is correct. You can respond yes or no. Happens when the command is not fully recognized, and doesn't happen often.
I have no idea how the "wake up" command works. Be nice if there's a way to bring up voice dialing without having to hold or press any keys. You can program the phone to auto enter voice dial when you open the clam shell, however if you don't say a voice immediately it exits voice mode and you're back to using the send key. I'm guessing the wakup command might be tied to the hands free kit, since that's one of the voice command settings (enable HFK). I don't have a HFK so no idea.
