~5150 Users~ Post ALL Sanyo 5150 Codes Here~!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Here's codes that Moleman has figured out...
##2769737 Set Up. Link (Browser Settings)
##8626337 Set Vocoder (Vocoder)
##8463 (Airtime Menu)

A code many know about know...
##040793 (Debug Menu)
(##) is the prefix of every code

Something I figured out by messing around with my phone...
##xxxxxx Anything filled in those x's that aren't a correct combination for a code, automatically shuts down the phone...

If anyone has new codes they will like to share, please post them here... Why create more than one post for codes, where we can all look in one place for them all?

Posted by: thunderboom01

I didn't realize the 5150 had an airtime counter. Thats great, I set it up so now when I go into call history it's right there. Thanks for posting that.

Posted by: phrend

Which menu do you have to be in to enter these codes?
(thanks)

Posted by: WLJ101

just type it and press menu and "save" and u'll c

Telus code is ##183729

Posted by: phrend

ahhhh - thank you!

Posted by: KOTULCN

what is supposed to happen when this code is entered Telus code is ##183729
my phone just power cycled ?

Posted by: WLJ101

... it will go to a menu that you don't really know what it is....

So does anyone know what the vocoder settings mean? (I have software ver 1.009SP).

After I enter ##8626337 then the Menu button then "Save Phone#" I get these two choices:
13K
EVRC

Under 13K there is:
RC2
RC5

Under EVRC there is:
RC1
RC3
RC4

So does anyone have any insight into these settings, especially concerning the sound quality and battery/radiation performance of the different settings?

Posted by: ImmerStark

evrc has better sound quality than 13k. evrc also uses less bandwith to transmit(better tollerance for low signal, and more network capacity to go around for everyone else)

on a slightly related note, does anyone know if phones will be software upgradable to support the smv codec?

Posted by: martianviking

I'll have to defer to the rest of the forum regarding upgrading to SMV...

But I'm also wondering what the "RC" options are, and what the Spring 5150's are set to by default. Are we all using 13K unless we change it to EVRC? If so, which "RC" option should we use?

Posted by: jimmyjames

They are different types of encryptions. You can learn about them on the internet, but they're all good.

13k sounds better than EVRC because it always transmits at the maximum bit-rate, whereas EVRC has a variable bit-rate. 13k is better for the user while EVRC is better for the carrier.

Go with 13k and RC5.

Posted by: WLJ101

is all these things will effect the signal strength??

cus I remember that after I changed to EVRC on my sanyo 5000, My friend told me that they called my cell and it turned to the Voice Msg.... do you think I should change it back to "Loopback13K" or "MarKov13k"?

WLJ101

Posted by: jimmyjames

I'm pretty sure that Loopback and Markov are just test options. You need to choose 13k Voice. What is the code for getting to that menu on a 5000? I'll try it and take a look at the options.

Posted by: WLJ101

hey... c the sticky post....

Posted by: IdiOTeQnoLogY

i went and did some research about vocoders and the evrc ones are superior to the 13k ones........they will filter out background noise and make your conversation sounds much more crisp and cleaner than the older 13k vocoders........however i have no idea if you should switch the 5150 as i have no idea what it will do to the phone

Posted by: martianviking

Anybody have any idea what vocoder settings the 5150 ships with? I can change my settings, but it isn't entirely clear what the settings are before you do so.

And thanks for the info.

Posted by: ImmerStark

most phones ship with 13k enabled, i don't know why, but that is how they do it.

Posted by: jimmyjames

Where did you find that information? It is not what I have found. The EVRC is only 8Kbps, when the 13k is obviously 13Kbps. EVRC is supposed to sound almost as good as 13k, while giving more bandwidth room to the provider.

Everything that I have found supports this, as well as many reports from individual users. Search the internet and the newsgroups.

13K is the best, but carriers can force calls into EVRC whether your phone is set that way or not.

Posted by: B1uTigg3r2

I'm guessing that the "TELUS CODE" is for a specific carrier for the Sanyo 5150... I tried it on my Sprint PCS phone... and it just shut off... Does anyone know what the code is for Sprint's Sanyo 5150?

Posted by: ImmerStark

the phone will reset, but the setting goes into effect. from my experience i like evrc much better than 13k, frame errors are much less obvious and the back ground noise supression is much better. evrc also sounds less metalic. 13k remides me a little of gsm codecs but not as bad, gsm is so shrill it feels like my ears are going to bleed when i am talking on a gsm phone. evrc is warm and comfortable, i can't wait for smv.

Posted by: jimmyjames

Normally I would agree about EVRC's clearer sound, except when the 5150 is involved. The speaker is too quiet and too muddy. 13k sounds better to me because it emphasized the highs more than EVRC does.

Posted by: ImmerStark

to each his own

Posted by: sirius1722

I was playing around with the vocoder settings and it looked like depending on the vocoder I was using signal strength changed, usually while I was using the ERVC vocoder. Has anyone else noticed a signal difference, or am I just imaginining (definitely spelled wrong) things.....

Posted by: ImmerStark

you will ususally get better reception with an 8 vocoder because it requires less actual bandwidth to transmit. i will use 802.11b networking as an example, when you are close to the base you can transmit at 11mbps no prob, but as you get further away your forced to transmit at slower rates because of link quality degredation. same thing with a mobile phone, the link can only support 14.4kbps up to a certain point, 9.6kbps can go a little further. andother benifit to using evrc is the background noice supression and voice activity detection work to improve battery life. i have found that evrc rc4 sounds the best.

Thanks for the info! The lack of a timer was one thing I didn't like about this phone.

Posted by: skutnick

Under the advanced menu on the 5150 there is an option called Access Overload Class. It's currently set to four. Does anyone know what it does?

Thanks,
Scott

Posted by: jimmyjames

How did you get to that menu? Is there anything about the slot cylce there? I've been wanting to change that on mine.

Posted by: skutnick

Yes it does have the slot cycle setting in it.
To get to the advanced menu you need what I believe is called the MRL number for your phone. Its the number you get when you activate it and pretend the activation does not work the first time.

I stumbled across this code somewhere (sorry, don't remember where)

##786

..that, for me, brings up a "ReverseLogistic" menu w/

Details
Self Test
Service Screen
Reset Default

just some FYI

Posted by: jimmyjames

How do you get to that menu though? What code do you type in to get to the screen where you enter your MSL? Could you please describe it in detail? With all of the codes posted on this forum, I've never seen a screen asking for my MSL. Thanks.

Posted by: skutnick

The code is the MSL. To enter it start at the main screen on your phone the type ## MSL code. Then hit the menu key and select save phone number and it brings you to the service programming menu - or something like that. Then select advanced menu and hit the ok button until you see the slot cycle option. Then just type in 3 or what ever you want there. The useful range is from 1-3.
When you exit out of the service programming menu your phone will restart if you made any changes.

Scott

Posted by: jimmyjames

Thanks Scott. On my v8162 you have to type in a specific code just to get the screen that asks you for your MSL. I'll definetely be changing my slot cycle to 1.

The Access Overload Class was supposed to be used for giving spectrum to emergency vehicles during an overload situation (read 9/11). Most carriers just assign the last digit of your phone number as the value. 00-09 are for regular consumers and 10-15 are for emergency workers. I don't believe that any carrier has actually implemented the system though.

Hey, does anyone know if there actually is a code to raise the volume of the ringers for the Sanyo 5150 and 6200? I heard a rumor that there was, and I posted a question in a new thread, but no one has responded.
The ringer volume for downloaded ringtones as well as default ringtones is very quiet on my Sanyo 6200, and it is driving me nuts.
Please someone, help me out. Thanks!!

Posted by: abcbooze

im an idiot, sorry

Posted by: ImmerStark

sorry dude but that is your personal msl, every phone has a different unique msl

Posted by: abcbooze

what purpose does slot cycle serve?

Posted by: itz khanh

well what ARE the factory settings for the 5150... is it 13k > 2 or 5

I changed it and now i dunno, i noticed i get better reception in some areas and worse in others. can someone let me know what the factory settings are supposed to be and what is the BEST!!!

i know some guys say evrc, some say 13k..... someone help me out!

Posted by: jimmyjames

According to Qualcomm (the maker of all of the chipsets), 13k is better than EVRC. EVRC is supposed to come close to sounding as good as 13k, while only using up 8-bits to do it (instead of 13).

Set the slot cycle to 0 or 1. Makes a big difference with missed calls.

Posted by: itz khanh

what is the STOCK slot cycle setting and how would i change it?

i need to know the OG settings because if i dont feel as if it makes a big difference i want to be able to return the phone into stock mode.

Also, is there a phone reset? like reset ALL options on the phone like vocoder, debugg everything back to as if it was a brand new phone.

Posted by: romeo68

same question.. how do i get to slot cycle.. through MSL? and now do i find out my MSL? and do we all agree on setting for 13k?? would it reduce the battery life? since its using strong singal?

Posted by: stormy7777

Here is the explanation for EVRC vs 13K pulled from Qualcomms site.. EVRC is the latest technology..........
CDMA systems can use either an 8 kbps (kilobytes per second) or a 13 kbps vocoder. The earliest CDMA systems used the 8kbps vocoder to maximize capacity.

The 13 kbps vocoder was later developed to provide a more land-line quality voice signal. The great improvement in quality was worth the slight reduction in capacity.

Recently the CDMA community adopted a new 8 kbps vocoder. This new vocoder is usually referred to as the EVRC (Extended Variable Rate Coding). It combines the quality of 13 kbps vocoding with the capacity of the 8kbps data rate.

what is "rc5"?

Posted by: Snyder81

In this case, I think RC5 refers to Release Candidate 5. In software development, each time the software is changed(versions), they put "release candidates" out to test. Anyone else have any ideas?

Posted by: Kane3030

i know in software it refers to release candidate but that is definately not what it means here. you can choose between rc2 and rc5

Posted by: romeo68

my wild guess will be that the rc 5 is the newest and the latest technology?

Posted by: jimmyjames

Nope. RC2 and RC5 are encryptions schemes. You can read up about them on the internet. It really doesn't matter which one you choose.

Posted by: Kane3030

what does it encrypt? that actual conversation?

Posted by: upt1me

What is the Access Overload class setting found in the Programming menu? Mine is currently set @ 9, is there a better setting?

The higher numbers are higher priority usually used for emergency management.. They have first priority when placing a call through the network.

Posted by: Kane3030

how do you get to that setting?

Posted by: Nick99EXB

Is there any way to find out your msl number without asking sprint ?

Posted by: bltst2

13k is the older 13 kilobit vocoder while EVRC (Enhanced Variable
Rate Codec) is the newer one. The vocoder is used when discussing the hardware that contains the codec, which is the type of compression used (software).

Here is a link to page that discusses EVRC (For Nokia phones, but you'll get the idea).

http://www.arcx.com/sites/EVRC.htm

Posted by: Kane3030

isnt 13k better though for sound quality?

Posted by: bltst2

The codec have nothing to do with sound quality, only bandwidth utilization from the phone to the tower.

Read the analysis from the link I provided above and determine for yourself. Here is a blurb that might sum it up:

"CDMA differs from all other digital standards in that each user consumes a variable amount of the “ether” according to the number of bits he or she transmits each second. The original CODEC used variable rates, but it normally transmitted at a rate of 13 kilobits per second. When the CODEC was first designed, you needed at least 13 kilobits to achieve reasonable audio quality. However, EVRC manages to produce reasonable audio quality in only 8 kilobits. Since EVRC users consume less ether than users of the old CODEC, a CDMA “carrier” can accommodate more of them.

It isn't just that EVRC masks bit errors more efficiently, it is also the way that EVRC responds to them that makes it better. The old CODEC would often manifest Bit Errors as odd frequency shifts in the voice of your caller. This gave the audio a decidedly electronic sound (especially with phones based on the Qualcomm chipset). EVRC on the other hand simply produces short breaks in the audio, or slight "rustles" that don't degrade the overall sound of the reproduction. When Bit Errors become too great, you will often hear longer blanks in the audio, or soft buzzing sounds. The overall effect is much more pleasant, however.

I was initially skeptical that the improvement would be all that noticeable, but I was really impressed by the difference (in terms of stability). I have been testing a Motorola Timeport on Clearnet, and my experience with it has been very positive. In prolonged calls I made while driving around Mississauga and Toronto, I could rarely detect any audible effects from Bit Errors, so long as it wasn’t rush hour. The Bit Error Rate during rush hour sometimes climbs much higher than EVRC can cope with in a few areas of the GTA. Clearnet might be able to help there by implementing more “carriers” (CDMA channels)."

Posted by: jimmyjames

It depends on the phone. For example, the v8162 sounds much better on 13k, the 5150 sounds very similar between 13k and EVRC, the A500 sounds much better with EVRC. Try both on your phone and see which one sounds better. If neither sound better, go with EVRC to free up tower capacity and take advantage of its ability to filter out background noise.

Posted by: Kane3030

if you select evrc on the 5150, which rc is better?

Posted by: jimmyjames

They determine whether it works on the 2g network or 3g network. It's up to you. Do a search to find out which is which.

Posted by: ECartrite

What do all thest codes do? Are they enhancements for the phone? I dont want to screw up my phone? and also where is the save button?

Posted by: JRose5

Can anyone explain what the Browser Setting code actually do?

Posted by: JollyRoger

How do I get to the rate set (1x) screen??????

Posted by: rhpt

Do the different vocoders make any difference on how downloaded ringtones will sound?

I've bought a few ringtones, and while they sound good on the computer, the quality is not so good on the phone.

Posted by: Thanhda

Does anyone know any codes to change the time on the phone? for the scp 5000 for telus?
