Here's a Press Release of Nextlink's new and exciting products for 2004. I can't wait to get my hands on that little BS-5g headset

Posted by: loko__loko

wow!

wished they put the buttons on the side, just like bsc...

i wonder if they will make digital 5g

Posted by: C20LET

Do you have any preliminary idea of release?........I really, really want one! I'm sure glad I waited and didn't comp for the Digital Bluespoon....the 5G will for sure be the next headset in my armada. Good work Nextlink!

Posted by: The Rex

wow that's tiny

Posted by: vwvwvw

Ya, tiny is right... There really isn’t anything else on the market at this time that even competes when it comes to the (Micro) size of the current D-BS... Now Nextlink moves the bar even further with this (Nano ) version for us BT fanatics!

Sooo, who wants to get one of these little gems when it’s released?

Posted by: loko__loko

this is a cool device, i might get one, hopefully the battery life is good too..

ME!....but I think most Bluespoon users on this forum are going to be at least interested once it's available. We all know the usefulness and benefits of having such small headsets....plus they're just damn cool! Waitress at a bar last night was so curious about it after she saw me using it while waiting for my friends to arrive. The flashing blue light is a definitive magnet in that way!

I'm not sure if anyone knows this yet, but can anyone see a flashing light on the 5G?

Perhaps our good friends at Nextlink will allow a special "HowardForums" discount price for all the support we've shown?.... Either way...I'm sure to get one once I can!

Posted by: vwvwvw

Our friends at Nextlink have always treated us at Hofo very well... look at the wonderful advantage we had with Beta Testing the D-BS. I was very honored (to say the least) to be one of those that was given this very difficult job (cough cough)

I really enjoyed doing all the testing and especially making the Audio Recordings used for comparisons between the A-BS and the D-BS (Including that famous comparison test by Bengalboy that is featured on Nextlink's site). I also had a great time with reviewing the Chameleon when it first premiered.

I don’t know if everyone who has a D-BS will necessarily be willing to go back to a analogue design. The Chameleon being a single mic. analogue devise...(I think) still has great merit in it's design. Now knowing ahead of time that the 5G is going to also be a analogue headset (and not digital)... I personally wouldn’t hesitate to get it... The sheer size of this thing is just brilliant 5 for 5G

I also feel that Nextlink being the company that it is...has something special up their sleeve to even improve the analogue approach... so only time will tell. I can’t wait either

I really hope that they (at Nextlink) found our feedback in field testing their products to be a profitable venture and I can only hope that they will once again allow us to do the same for them in the future.

BTW Good question C20LET on the LED(s) of the 5G. If the one at CES was a working model and turned on... maybe our friend Nate can comment if he saw it flashing (or not)

Update already... I just talked to Nate and he said the unit at CES was not a working model!

Posted by: C20LET

I agree....Nextlink has been very, very kind to HoFo. Reading back on the great service given during the beta-testing period it's clear that they want to keep up the good rapport with all of us here.

I know I won't hesitate to get one of the 5G's. I'm still on my original analog Bluespoon and have had very little to complain about. I've been through a lot with it! As such, I've yet to experience the Digital Bluespoon. It was on my shortlist of 'things to buy' in '04, but now with 5G out I can't help feeling like it's the front runner to replace my other still-functioning BT headsets. If they make a digital 5G then I'll be set for sure! Either way, I'm very happy with the analog quality of the Bluespoon I have and I'm sure they 5G will at least be as good if not better. And you're right 3VW, the sheer size of the 5G makes it hard to resist anyway!

Too bad the model in Vegas wasn't a working model but I guess we can try and be patient to find out more, eh?

I am not too sure why Bengalboy opened another Bluespoon 5G thread??
Looks like there is some competition going on here!

Posted by: Jalal

I want one now or I'll and and

Posted by: vwvwvw

Well Jalal.. you're going to have to a while longer because the 5G won't be available for release for sometime yet. My best guess would be mid 2004.

But then again what do I know!

Posted by: Jalal

That's a long time to keep on crying. I'll a bit and then beg a bit longer. Maybe Nextlink will pitty us HoFoers and give us a chance to "test " it for them. Wadday think?!

Posted by: vwvwvw

One of the reasons I asked who wants one ... is to try and get a feel as to how many Hofo members are actually interested (already) in this marvalous little gem. Even though we're going to have to wait for it, we can still show we are excited and serious about this new and unique BT headset... And who knows what can happen if Nextlink (looking in ) sees a great show of interest

Meanwhile,I know I'll be dream-in about the just like you Jalal.

Posted by: Jalal

Well now you know I want one.

Come on guys raise your hands.

Posted by: skaquixotic

wow....just ....WOW

i was originally going to get a BSC this weekend, but now...i dont know...

how much is this gonna cost?? any more info on when it's going to be released???

WOW...

and if there are another round of betatesters, i would be MORE than happy to test. Whatever it takes...if there is another test, i will do it.

I want the Babyspoon.. I can't wait for it to be released or for me to get my hands on it

Posted by: jh67

Regarding the 5G :

There is no releasedate, and no technical data as of now.

The model shown on CES was a so called showcase model, and no, it wasnt fully functional. It was an analog unit.

A lot of decisions need to be taken, when doing new designs. We are just in the beginning of this proces,....thats also why we cannot give tech data or price/releasenotes.

We will not give information, and then one month later everything is changed,.....that is too messy, hehe.

All items are subjects to change, as they say

Its a load of fun doing a Showmodel,...you dont have to think too much about costs, materials etc,...and thats also why there are some issues, before entering "production-state", or even pre-production.

Once we can give some more info, we will,..but you guys already know this from the "Old days of Digital-beta-testing" ;-D

Babyspoon? Good name! You should trademark that Rasmus!

Posted by: vwvwvw

Hi Jan,

Thanks for coming on and setting us straight as to where you Nextlink guys are in the development of this very exciting new design.

I’m sure you realize that once you premier such a ground breaking design, fanatics like us a Hofo will start knocking at your door! It’s almost cruel for us to receive such information as that you’re still just in the process of developing the 5G. I’m sure it’s no surprise to you that once we see even a static model, we’re all like little kids... “we gotta have it now” sets in!

Seriously though, I look forward to when you can give us a more definite response as to the availability of the 5G. Just a favor though Jan.... would/could you please stop in at Hofo periodically and keep us updated as to the progress on this... we’ll need all the comfort we can get as we see the months go by!

Even though the focus of all this excitement is about the 5G headset... I would also like to know more about the BS Phone. Is there anything more than what’s on the press release that you can tell me?
My first though was if I have my D-BS paired for use with the P900 will I be able to just simply use it with the BS Phone when I get home? I’m not envisioning exactly how I would use the D-BS at home if I would have it paired to both the P900 and the BS Phone... how will this function?

BTW I hope you don’t mind me rallying the troops for a show of interest? I figured you would appreciate (even though it's early in the game) just who has their hand up already.

I agree with 3vw...thanks for the info Jan. I'm still relatively new to the forum (end of the summer or something is when I started heavily) but having read all the digital Bluespoon beta threads and what not it's obvious you guys at Nextlink really care about the hardcore fans like us!

Hopefully the coming months will treat us to a host of new pictures and facts as we all anxiously await the 5g.

3vw beat me to it, but I was gonna post something about the Bluespoon phone as well. I find myself making more and more phone calls from my Bluespoon and P900 combo simply because I like that far better than having my home phone in one hand! Just not always practical to be using the cellular phone in the home always. This is definitely something I'd be interested in as well though, if you guys at Nextlink are taking a straw poll here as to who is interested in what. I'd definitely love some more info as well.

Also, as I believe 3vw and I mentioned at the top of this thread, can you tell us, Jan, whether or not the 5g is being planned with a flashing LED again?

Posted by: Jalal

Babyspoon! Great name

Posted by: jh67

You're welcome

VWVWVW >

Yes I do know that people "react" when they see new stuff,..I do that too, hehe.

And by announcing it, we also get some good input,....thats very much needed,..as decisions need to made regarding production etc.

But I will rather have the 5G in the pressrelease, than having sudden and incorrect posts about it everywhere We already had a site saying that the 5G would be available within the next month bla bla bla,.. hehe....
basically if you dont give info to the Press, THEY will invent it themselves!!

There were a lot of interest around the model at CES, and some pictures and info would have gotten out, if we had not put it on the pressrelease ourself.

Yes,..I will try to keep you guys as updated as I possible can.

For now, theres not that much info regarding 5G,...as the development proces is still running at its highest,... meaning different stuff is being tried/tested out etc.

----

The Bluespoon PHONE was also a very popular item at CES,.. the device is quite brilliant, I think.
It works great with both Digitals and Chameleons,..also other headsets.
Antenna gives you far more than 10 metres,..so its perfect for home-usage. Reception is great, and you have both hands free.
You pair the units,..the headset and the PHONE. Works just like a cellphone-pairing.

I'll try to visualize it ;

If you have both the PHONE and P900 opened (BT on), and the BS Digital turned on,..then when you recieve a call,..push the headset button, and if its the mobile phone that rings, then that call will be picked up,..
if its the home phone,...then the headset picks up that call

It really works pretty simple

C20LET>

Regarding the flashing LED,..dont know yet,....we will choose the most power-saving ones, as the unit is already very small, and therefore battery is not a "XXX-large ones" neither, hehe...

Babyspoon was actually my concept code-name for the 5G, hehe,...the folder on my desktop is called just that ;-D
Kinda cute name,....
I thought of the 5G name, when seeing its weight

Yup.. Sorry guys but i didn't make up that name. I got it in an e-mail from Jan..

Great products from a great company!

Posted by: dupasquier

Like me, you probably read somewhere else on this board that the 5G would come "at Chameleon prices" and that "it won't be long" until we can buy them.
Here is a quote from Jan (Nextlink Marketing Manager) posted in the Motorola section that doesn't seem to confirm these informations.

Prices on headsets can drop within a few months,..or they could be stabile,...this headset could be cheaper than Chameleon or more expensive than Digital,...it all depends on materials, specs and market-prices

Dupasquier,..

Should have written it in here too I guess Thanks...

I would of course love to tell how cheap and sofisticated it is,..but for now, I cant,...
as the specs etc is still being worked on,.. in that phase/state, where nothing is sure yet,..and all sorts of stuff is being investigated/tried out,..and so on

It would also be quite impossible to say anything on prices, especially since the production proces is not ready yet, hehe....

I will of course keep people updated as much as I can.

I just dont want people to expect it to be here tomorrow,....

Have a great weekend

Not to worry, Jan.

I am not expecting you to double or triple post your answers, hence my remarks on the other 5G thread.
I thought it was important to quote you as people here in the UIQ section were somewhat mislead by information posted on the other 5G thread by your "unofficial spokesperson".

Anyway, thank you Jan for taking the time to keep us informed.

Posted by: jh67

You're welcome Dupasquier

I will try to post as much info as possible.

Its quite normal than when showing a prototype ("new model"), then people are very exited,..and it is of course a good thing that theres a great interest in the product.

Right from the start, I will rather give info, than let people guess on "whats going on".

(that is one of the things that I usually find annoying, when first reading about e.g. a new phone, car whatever,....theres no info, no nothing)...

have a great weekend "out there"

BR Jan

Jan,

I read all that you wrote here, but is there any chance that this Babyspoon might be digital?

Just thought I'd ask.

And I second everyone else when I say, "Geez, that's small!!!". Pretty amazing.

UPDATE: Nevermind, Jan. I just answered my own question from reading in the other BS thread.
