I just got my 6600 and i looked around for a cheap cable and i got mine for 23.00 including shipping!! its g-r-e-a-t!

Posted by: Disparky

I just ordered one. I hope it works out.;izza:

Posted by: wiLx u Up

post a reply on its performance.

Posted by: bbm

The description even says "Include charger function". This would be a better price/deal than the charging rpiwireless cable if everything works as said.

Posted by: Disparky

I'm assuming that it will charge the phone while it's plugged into the USB port. Yes that would be a nice feature!
Still waiting for mine to arrive.

Posted by: Redsandx03

nvm i have fixed my problem.

Posted by: guiseppewv

Did you guys get yours? If so, comments, concerns, etc...?

Posted by: kae

WILLTHIS WORK FOR THE 4600? COZ I READ ON ANOTHER POST U NEED SOME KIND OF DATA CONVERTER CABLE WITH A BLACK BOX IN THE MIDDLE....HAS ANYONE TRIED THIS ON THE 4600?

and as for the 4600 -> the information they showed says it works for it.. i would give it a try becuase it works PERFECT for me!

Posted by: Ajs24

GUESS WHAT!!!!!!

i put my phone in the usb cable and pluged it in.. i had 3 bars when i first put it in and after about 7 minutes i looked at my phone and it was a 4 bars! im not sure if it 100% charges.. but i think it does!!

whoa.. it feels good to help people .. lolol

Posted by: Disparky

I finally got mine and yes it charges the phone.
How do you change the banner to remove the verizon logo?

Posted by: Ajs24

You Need BITPIM...

1. Unzip My Attachment that i added at the bottom of the reply..
2. EXTRACT the " Custom VX6000 no verizon wireless" file to your desktop. ( doesnt have to be there .. but thats where i stored it.. ) I got that file from http://home.nycap.rr.com/stopcbt/vx6000.html
3. OPEN bitpim
4. Go To VIEW on the top toolbar
5. Check Off " FILESYSTEM "
6. The tab will appear by where it says calender ringtones etc.
7. Click that -> then click the +
8. Go Down till you see ERI and click the + sign
9. Side-Click the ERI.BIN file and hit OVERWRITE
10. Locate the " Custom VX6000 no verizon wireless" file and click OKAY
11. It should load it up there ( do NOT remove ur cable while doing that) then it should say READY at the bottom.
12. Unplug your phone and restart it and when it comes back on it should be GONE.

PLEASE GIVE ME FEEDBACK..
- Sorry this is my first tutorial -

Posted by: bbm

Does the cable have a red LED light on it like the RPI charging one does I think?

Posted by: Ajs24

yeah it does.. and it stays on as long as the cable is plugged into the computer and the computer is on

Posted by: Disparky

Hey Ajs24,
Thanks for the tutorial and the file. It worked flawlessly and I no langer have the Verizon Wireless logo taking up space on the screen! It saved me a lot of time not having to use the hex editor.

Posted by: Ajs24

y0ur welcome.. i just thought why do people have to waste 15 minutes of their life when they could just use that file? lol ur actually the first person i helped! i feel so proud of myself!

Posted by: Disparky

Well you did a good job. If you have any more tips and tricks, please post them here!

Posted by: starmanj

Hey guys, I just got the Tangshop cable myself. But what USB driver do we use with that cable? I can't get Bitpim to see the phone.

Thanks
Starmanj

Posted by: Disparky

Try this..

Posted by: starmanj

Disparky-
No attachment or links?

I loaded the LG USB drivers, but bitpim crashes when I try to connect.

Any ideas?

Posted by: starmanj

This is driving me crazy. I downloaded the drivers from RPI wireless, which carry the same cable as tangshop. The drivers grabbed COM ports 3 and 4; 3 is a "modem", and 4 is "diagnostics". Bitpim ver7 test 2 crashes my XP computer every time. I tried setting Bitpim to COM 3 then 4, crashes both times. computer locks up hard.

Either the USB drivers are bad, maybe not for XP, or Bitpim ver 7.2 is bad, or I am not setting phone up right. I set the phone, under Settings->1x data-> RS-232 and speed 115200.

Are these the right settings/drivers for the Tangshop cable and 6000?

Starmanj, don't know if you fixed it, but I had the same problem that you did - I almost returned the cable to Tang Shop. I had to DL the driver from RPIwireless.com, after that, my data cable worked. Hope this helped.

Posted by: starmanj

I moved everything to another XP computer and it worked fine. I have 8 USB ports on my main computer, and it seems to hang the computer for some reason.

Can you download the pictures you take with the LG 6000 to your computer? The verizon people said i can't, i can only send them to my self which means spending money every time i do it. I just want to transfer pictures from my phone to the computer through a cable. Can anyone help me?

Posted by: iLL L0g1c4L

nebyendo - yeah, you can DL the pics with the cable:

Use the latest version of BitPim...

1.) Go to the "Filesystem" tab
2.) Click the "+" to expand the phone's Electronic File System directory tree
3.) Click the "+" next to "cam"
4.) Right click on any .JPG
5.) Click "Save." Choose path.

The 3G Cables cable is not charging. I did some research on charging cables and found them to be dangerous. Someone warned me about the charging cables and I didn’t believe them so I called an LG engineer and also the manufacturer of Futuredial products. They tell me that charging cables can/and will fry your phone and battery. And if you get lucky and it doesn’t fry it, then it can still cause problems with an unstable voltage. The reason they tell me is that with the charging cables there is no voltage regulation and when the phone is left on the charger it can be damaged by too much voltage buildup. Just some info for you guys straight from the phone manufacturer themselves.

I got my cable for under $18 shipped on ebay. Came with drivers but no software.

Easy as pie to install the drivers

CHARGES THE PHONE

Is fully plug and play USB compatible

I've already been hackin my phone up, getting rid of ALL the verizon banners (except that mother ××××er on POWER ON!!!).

Best money I've invested in the phone so far!

Who was the seller for the cable? Can we get a link? Thanks.

Not like the manufacturer has any reason to steer you away from 3rd party cables. This is the usual CYA type stuff they do.

The charging cable put out the same amount of power as the desktop charger, and USB power is well regulated.

Hmmm... I was looking at a usb data cable on eBay and emailed the seller asking if it was a charging cable. He emailed me back warning me strongly that such cables are not UL certified and will fry my phone. He had links to several major providers and manufacturers websites to verify this.

Anyone have any experience to that effect? Any stories at all. Anyone whose been using a usb charing cable for a long time without any problems?

I have a similar cable for my palm and have used it for 9 months+ without any problems, but not on a cell phone. I even have 110V and cigarette light adapters for it, which I though would be cool to be able to use for my phone as well.

I figure the providers and manufacturers are, of course, going to tell me not to use them because they're going to want me to buy their equipment.

Posted by: Sparkhead

If he had links, post them.

I have had devices for years that charge or are powered by the USB port. Never had a problem.

What kind of devices? Were any of them cellphones?

As for the links, they only linked to the general tech support page of a few phone providers and manufacturers. There were no links to pages with specific information on usb charging.

One is now. Prior to this, devices such as pocket PC's, palm pilots, a timeport, webcams, scanners, etc. I trust the usb supply more that I'd trust the power coming out of a travel charger. The handhelds would be the most similar to a cellphone when it comes to electronics.

So they had no info regarding charging via USB. Why reference them?
