Question to Holders of Sharp Handphone

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: frozenfroze

I have a few questions to ask?
I am interested to get the sharp gx 22 or 27....But not buying so soon....
maybe at the end of the year....

I am staying in singapore and singapore is not selling sharp phone....

So those staying in sg which has the phone can u telll me where to get it...

If need to go to malaysia to get it.. Den can you tell me one that is in JB... cos i dun go malaysia often....

Is it better to wait for Gx 30 or even later model.....

can someone give me see the picture of GX 22 or 27 and tell me about GX22 or 27..... how you feel about the phone, whether it is worth the price and reviews about the phone....
Best is let me see the Menu cause i cannot find any pictures of how the menu looks like...

Posted by: hocky

If you are gonna wait till the end of the year, you might as well get a gx-30.

Posted by: prorogol

I'm holding GX27 in Singapore. The camera & main display are the best available at the moment. If you don't mind to wait till end 2004 and have extra cash, most likely GX30 will be a better choice lah (i think), coz newer model usually are better than the older model (there are exceptions of course). So far I've only seen another ONE person holding the same model, which will really make you stand out from the rest.

I would advise you to get GX27 rather than GX22, cos in case anything goes wrong, you can still bring it to Malaysia for warranty service. (unless you go Hongkong very often). You can try to get the phone at City Square (the one just outside the Malaysian Custom), and the price should be MYR$1850 (3%or 4% extra for payment by credit card).

See the main menu at http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/sho...threadid=120342 or http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...threadid=276313

Other than the superb camera & display, Sharp has nothing much to offer.

prorogol

can you post pics of the package that came with the gx-27? i wanna compare it with the package of the gx-22. Also, does City Square have any accessories for the gx-27? I wanna buy a desktop charger and a hp casing for my gx-22.

Posted by: frozenfroze

i know of a shop in Far East Plaza Selling Gx 22.....Which is export model.... but i am not sure if my phone is spoilt....can i send it to them to send back for repair.....
That's why i am considering of getting that Gx 22...

How is the sms typing for Sharp phones.... Is it the same kind like nokia(All the buttons has the same functions) Or more difficult to use

I may be getting Gx 30 at the end of the year but my panasonic GD88 is having all the stupid differences from other brand which is difficult to use which is making me wanting to take Sharp phone faster....
I may survive to end of the year or buy at the end of this month when i get my pay....

Thankz guys,,, BTW....
Hope to be one of the gangs of Sharp

Posted by: frozenfroze

If i buy it from malaysia, Does it has any contract for the phone...

Posted by: hocky

frozenfroze

Posted by: hocky

frozenfroze

opps, pls ignore the previous post. (Faulty touchpad of my laptop)

Does the shop at Far East Plaza sell accessories for the GX-22? And on which floor of Far East Plaza is the shop located?

Posted by: frozenfroze

here's the website for the shop....http://www.mobilesquare.com.sg/

it does sell gx-22 desk charger and batteries

Posted by: prorogol

i bought MYR$1850 without contract from Malaysia. but if you go to Maxis shop, i'm not sure whether need contract or not.

sms definitely is not as simple as nokia. cannot add many new words, exact nbr i dunno... but i noticed that new words will override old words. it's indeed a bit troublesome to use. also need a few more presses to send a sms.

Posted by: hocky

Thanks for the website, frozenfroze. Think i will go to the shop tomorrow.

Posted by: frozenfroze

actually i am not really very afraid that sms typing will be difficult.....
I'm just afraid that the sms will like the panasonic gd88 so difficult and stupid...
The panasonic if u accidently pressed the hang up button, the message that you typed will not be remembered... you will have to retype everything.... Panasonic does not have memory to remember any words but the strange thing is some words somehow got into the T9 some could not...So i dun know if it really could remember worlds...

Sharp seems to be better than pana......
I may get the Gx 22 from the mobile shop in sg if i am too lazy....but that shop does not have warrenty...
Or i will get Gx 27 from City Square....IF i have time
Or Wait for Gx30... better....

Looks like if i want GX 30.... i will need to save more money...
So troublesome.......

Posted by: frozenfroze

i went to the Far east plaza shop today.....
Saw the GX 22S

Really........Perfect man that phone.... I decided to buy that phone liao.... but must ask parents first....

Still must wait for stocks first den can take.... I really wish that can get it today man.......

Really Impressed that u guys have it....

Posted by: AMD1600

Haha, its was never too late to get yourself such a GREAT camera phone. CGS technolgy is the best for now. Even TFT monitors didn't come close to it. Nearly pixeless!

Welcome to SHARP brand.... So are u getting the "S" version?

Posted by: frozenfroze

yes....maybe....If parent nod head....

The guy say that S is from the factory....Not any operator....

Meaning...Gx 22 is under Smartone
And Gx 27 is Maxis
so they are bought over and changed the casing...

Gx 22S is straight from the factory....No preconfigration of the operators....

No warrenty...But still can send to malaysia to repair

That phone is really BEST screen....U cannot judge from pictures...
The real Phone is the one that shows u wat a Camera Phone is...

Posted by: hocky

I went to that far east shop yesterday too. That shop only has GX-22S. I bought the desktop charger for 12 bucks. If you wanna buy the GX-22S, you can consider getting the desktop charger too. I am not so sure about the spare batteries that they sell there though. Think they are 3rd party ones. Luckily i got my fren from hong kong to buy me a spare batt from smartone when she bought the phone for me. Oh yah, welcome to the World of Sharp, frozenfroze.

Posted by: frozenfroze

The web shows that the battery and desktop charger is selling $28...Kind of cheap... so maybe considering buying that too....

Thankz Guys..... You helped me choose a good phone....
Sharp Rulezzz.......

Panasonic bluffs ppl by their 'Style' in the phones....
The quality and resulation is damn bad.... Comparing to even nokia....

Posted by: AMD1600

Never mind that. U gonna treat yourself like "loli-pop" when u see the Big LCD.

Posted by: hocky

Just to let you know. Both the battery and desktop charger selling for 28 bucks are third party accessories. You might wanna go down to malaysia and get an original spare batt from any maxis outlet.

Posted by: frozenfroze

will a third party batt spoil my phone???

I dun really have much time going to malaysia.... Only time is June....

I am working everyday....

Posted by: frozenfroze

has anyone of ur handphone spoilt before?
Where do you send to repair?

Posted by: hocky

I dunno if the 3rd party batt will spoil the phone or not but i am not about to take a risk. If u spent abt a 1000 on a phone, i dun think u will wanna take any chances. As for service centres, my phone's still in mint condition hehe.

Wow, wat pics did u take? Even at 640X480 resolution and Fine Quality, I think the pics are only about 50kb. Anyway, normally you would just take pics at Normal quality as you can't really see any diff between Fine And Normal even when u port the pics to pc. I guess most of us would have lots of 320X240 pics for our wallpaper and 1 tip to size them down is to upload the target pic to ur gx22 then use adjust size to resize the pic. U will notice that the output pic will have abt half the size of the original though u cannot see any differences in the quality. You can do this for all pics save for animated gifs as adjust size function will only save the first frame of the animated gif.

Posted by: AMD1600

When u took a photo horizontally 640Xx480 is abt 50+70+kbs. Then using the built editing tool "rotate" it (eg. from horizontal image to normal upright vertical image) then u save it. It'll take around 16+kbs to 20kbs.

It looks the same on your Phone screen but if upload to your computer & view it. The image is better than the photos taken on 240x320 itself. That's what I found.

Posted by: hocky

I get what u mean. Maybe the display supports vertical pics better. Hehe.

Hi everyone, I'mnew to this forum. After reading the forum, I'm looking at getting a SHarp GX22S to replace my Nokia 6100 and Nokia 7210. However, I realise that the phone is difficult to get in where I'm at.(Singapore) I wonder if anyone can help me with the following questions.

1.For those in Singapore and currently holding the Sharp GX22, where did you get the phones? From Mobilesquare in Far East Plaza? Is there anywhere else in Singapore where you can get the phone? How much did you all pay for it?

2. I read in the forum that the display is one of the best and the camera is as well. However, I also found that there are problems downloading and uploading the the pics to the PC.Sharp's website said that the IR is only to be used such that the PC can use the phone as a modem. B]Is it possible to upload/download the the pics to my PC via infrared?[/B]

3.Is the Picture caller ID display visible on the external screen ?

4.I also read that GXS is direct from the manufacturer and as such is not tied to any mobile phone service provider. Is that true?. Also I found out that the battery Sharp GX is using is the same as Motorola V750 I'm not sure if I'm right but if I am hope it helps those who needs accessories but can't get them.

I hope I can get some answers to my questions. I 've been reading in the forum but some of the things are really confusing esp since this phone is not available where I am unlike Nokia, I can just ask the guy sitting besides me for info. Thanks in advance.

Cheers!

I will try to answer as much of your questions as possible.

1. I am holding the GX-22. I got my fren to buy it from SmarTone in Hong Kong. I bought it for 4380 Hong Kong dollars which is around 970 Sing dollars. Currently, the only place that is confirmed to sell the GX22S is Mobile Square. They have 2 branches, 1 in Far East and the other in United Square and both branches sell the GX22S but only the Far East branch carry the accessories like desktop charger. Mobile Square sells the GX22S for 888 Sing dollars. I do not know of other places that might sell the GX22, maybe u can try Sim Lim Tower.

2. Yes, it is possible to upload and download pics to and from the pc using IrDa. If your computer does not have a infrared port bulit-in, i recommend that you buy the MA-620 infrared device. It is readily available in most computer stores. I bought mine from a computer store in West Mall for 59 sing dollars. That was the cheapest that i could find, even cheaper than Sim Lim.

3. The Picture Caller ID is visible on the external display.

4. Yes, the GX22S is direct from the factory and does not carry any operator logos on it. I'm not sure if the Sharp battery is the same as the Motorola V750. You got that info from ebay, right? I bought my batteries from SmarTone in Hong Kong and they come with 1 yr warranty. I recommend you to buy original batteries as there was this guy who had a spoilt GX-22 due to third party batteries.

Thanks for the reply. It was much sooner than I expected. I got the battery info from ebay as well as other forums. But I guess your are right it's better to use original.

In your opinion, is the phone worth that much of $$? I mean it's close to 1k and nowadays there are not many phones that come with that kinda price tag.

I do like the phone and it's reinforced by the comments from users. Though I have yet to see the phone myself.

Thanks again

i have bought it few months ago and i still like the phone....
the onli problems are the IR.....so so
it has best cam and screen...that's wat made it famous and expensive

Posted by: dican10

frozenfroze , if ur gx22 (touchwood) need to send for service or repairs .... where in malaysia do u send it to ??

hmmmm....i think send to sharp malaysia repair centre.....
If really small problems like no sound or lights spoilt...can just repair in singapore.......look for those repair shop to repair....if they have the parts, he will be able to fix....

I noe that Mobile square supports repairing....they asked me that i can return to them for repairing....

onli big problems like LCD crack den need to bring to malaysia....
Dun worry....i first was afraid about repairing....but if u take good care of the phone...(i bet u willl)...it will not spoil easily...

I dun like the Gx22 having small memory.....No expandable slot = no mp3 player... so i may be getting 3300 too for mp3 player but still using gx22 for phone...

The Screen is very clear....this makes the cam taken pic clear too...
Cannot be compared to LG G7100.....Nokia.......

CGS is making the space between pixels closer..... if u look closely at the pixels u will not be able to see a single pixels and any black lines crossing the LCD....other phone does....

Posted by: dican10

where is this sharp malaysia repair centre , any idea ?

the sharp website didnt state it .

Posted by: FoneNut

Hi everyone,

I went to MobileSquare today and GX22 is all sold out. DAMN! But I did get to see the Inno 90. Screen looks quite good but the person there told me it still can't be compared to Sharp's..gee wished I had a chance to look at Sharp's LCD!

Anyway he told me that for GX30 as long as it's launched they can bring it in within 3 days! Just can't wait to see how uch it will cost. With so many fantastic fones coming out soon, I think I might just ditch Nokia.

Guys I have a question here, from what I gathered on the forum, there are no games downloadeable for GX22 right? If that's so, isn't it a waste of its beautiful screen?

Posted by: AMD1600

MS bringing Vodafone GX-30 in few days time? That's cool. but I'll wait till the GX-32S or something to release. Don't like the Voda menu. Guess the price ard SGD$1000+.

I've just got mine GX-22S 1.5months ago. hope the price drops abit not plunge down. Maybe gonna sell mine to upgrade to GX-30 if the price is right.

Posted by: fonecrazy

sigh... i hate it when it happens

hehh same here just got my Gx22s now gx30 is coming .. i thought it would be much later in the year didn't know that it would be so soon... if i knew it was coming so soon would have waited for it.. and yes i wouldn't go for it now because of voda screen... would wait for the non voda versions... hmm know where we could sell the sharp Gx22 phone off? via internet? ebay? but then i may still consider not getting the sharp Gx30 because i don't really like the design but the features with expandable memory is really enticing !!!

Posted by: AMD1600

fonecrazy,

If I were to sold my phone, I'll go through hardware zone. That's lotsa local people getting phones there.

Posted by: hocky

If MobileSquare can offer GX-22 trade-in for gx-30 or something like that, then it would save us the hassle of selling our gx-22. Oh well, if u wanna get a gx-22 now, fonenut, i strongly suggest that u wait for the gx-32. By then, even if u still decide to get the gx-22, i'm sure u can get it at a cheap price cos a lot of us will be dumping it for the gx-32.

Posted by: FoneNut

Well, if any of you guys decided to dump your GX22 you know where to find me! Of cos price must be reasonable.

hey thanks for the info..hehe but i got an avid buyer so most probably sell it to my GF.. she's wants it but crap she wants it really cheap like $200 told her i might as well give to her free!

Posted by: AMD1600

haha $200 for GX-22S can... But gotta Wait 1.5 years later then sell it to her loh... OR $200 for the 1st downment also can....

Posted by: FoneNut

Hey , I can give u a better offer. $300 for your fone a cool $100 more.................hahahaha

Posted by: FoneNut

I went down to MS yesterday cos the GX22 is in stocks but i didn't call in advance to reserve and when I was there all of them ahs been sold out! That was fast. Maybe I wasn't meant to have that phone.

I'm still having my concerns on the phone, the display is simply the most fantastic I have seen but wat's stopping me from buying would be the Java games or rather lack of it and the prob the lack of customisation. I dun think there's any place or sites to go to to download games or wallpapers.

Now I'm torn between a GX and a phone that can be easily customised.

What a headache!

Posted by: AMD1600

If you like a very good camera phone go get GX-22, if not go get a symbian phone can do lotsa customisation.

i guess this would pretty much be a problem for gx30 too

Posted by: FoneNut

Sigh. Fantastic fone but kinda let down if you are used to the ease of use and the large choices of customization. However the great screen is a BIG plus point.

I'm not sure about thiss o I think I need some clarification here.

I think Sharp GX can have screensavers right? Can I just use any .GIF files as screen savers also if that's the case, I can also use any .jpg files for wallpapers right?

Posted by: jasonttb

Hi, I just bought a GX22s and i was wondering if you guys can remove the operator logo in the middle of the wallpaper?

If not, is there a transparent logo where i can download from?

FoneNut

Yes, u can use gifs as screensavers but the color of gif screensavers will be rather limited if u were to constrain them to the 50kb size limit. A Java screensaver will look nicer but it consumes more power and memory. Any jpg pic can be used as wallpaper. If u are transferring the pics from ur comp via infrared or cable, the pic size cannot be more than 50kb.

Posted by: FoneNut

Guys, try this site and see if the free java games for Sharp Gx works on the 22. Here's the link
http://www.sharpgamer.com/free-mobile-java-games/

Hope it works!

Posted by: AMD1600

But the games there are all for GX-10. I don't think its compatiable. If the games are design for GX-20 also might not work on GX-22 that what I heard...

Posted by: turtle76

Unexpected that this forum is populated with so many Singaporeans. I m currently holding on to a 1mth+ Inno 90 and would like to exchange for a Sharp GX 22/7 (+top up of course )
Any interested guys can mail me at tankimwee@yahoo.com. Thanks.
