Possible to remove T610 camera?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

One of the more useless features, in my opinion... Crappy quality, and it means I can't take my "good phone" to work with me (no cameras in the building).

Anybody know if I can remove the camera easily, and then make something to plug the hole that'd be left?

Thanks!

I was considering that...taking the cover off, blanking out the camera lens, and putting the cover back on.

This might be your best bet. Without cracking mine open (and I don't plan to...) the camera most likely is mounted right on the PCB. That is, soldered on, not manufactured that way. Your best and safest bet for your T61x phone is to just open it, tape it, close it.

spraypaint the whole back of the phone black.

But then everyone knows T616 has a camera built in. Wouldn't that still be causing you trouble?

Its not soldered, its just clipped in with a little ribbon cable for connection. It can be removed really easily.

sorry for double post. I have removed my camera, and its works fine witout it. I just unclips. If you try to use the camera it just ignores the click, everything else is fine. It doesnt crash or anything, i have a video clip if you want proof. Also the screen is a hell of a lot nicer with no plastic infront of it.

Cool, thanks for the info! BTW - did you do anything special to plug up the hole? I'm trying to figure out what I'll do with it.

Also...what do you mean "with no plastic infront of it" for the screen?

Thanks!

I didnt plug the hole, was changing the cover so thought i would try taking off the camera. a small circle of aluminium would probably look nice.
The screen seems to look nicer when it doesnt have the front of the case covering it, when you just have a bare board.

Ah, I see. You don't carry it around that way, but it looked better when you had it open.

I'll see what I can do about taking the camera out. Thanks!

Cool, that was easier than I thought it would be. Thanks! I may make a little fiberglass doohickey to fill the hole within the silver ring, though. Hmmm...
