(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

SO FAR :

Speed Dial Pictures Pop Up when button pressed in closed flip mode.

Amazing RF!!

Processor Speed Boosted Considerably. (Menu Speed Very Fast)

Sound Quality Boosted..

R3C006
R5D
R3A06
R3A05

UPGRADED FROM EMMA SERVER, NOT THE SELF UPDATE..

Mod Edit: Please dont use language like that here. Thanks!

Posted by: frozenwaffles

can i just ask what is so ******** about the self online update?

Posted by: Kingamir45

Because it goes forth with CDA..
Meaning it does not always give you the most resent Firmware..

Not to take anything away from it, but the EMMA way is much much better.. and reliable...

Posted by: ShovelhEd

My Speed Dial Pictures popped up with the last firmaware I had in flip-closed mode... So that isn't an improvement.
Truly don't see an improvement with speed; menu or otherwise.

Posted by: Kingamir45

Considering I Had R1 Beta Firmaware I Think Its A drastic Improvement..
Your Firmware Was More Recent Than Mine...

Just Listing Noticable Improvements That Are Also Posted For Sony Ericsson Repair Centers That Carry EMMA II Capabilities!!!

Posted by: ShovelhEd

Excellent to hear!
Post back if you find more info!

I think the self-update for the P900 is quite nice. It does its job well. Too bad it's not available for more SE phones, especially the P800.

hey huys how do i go about this self update exactly

This is the URL of the EMMA II server.

http://emma.extranet.sonyericsson.c...rver/index.html

But I don't know how to use this website to do the P900 update, perhaps Kingamir45 care to explain?

You cannot without an account and some hardware, plain and simple. This is not meant for "end users"

Any advice on how not to be an 'end user'? I hope everyone is here to share and help each other. SE is earning most of its money from 'end users' like us. We have the right to know whatever makes the phone work.

Posted by: Kingamir45

Sorry guys,

The EMMA II server is ment for Sony Ericsson Flash Points or Service Centers, and yes hardware is needed plus authorization from Sony Ericsson itself..

and once again not to take anything away from self updates, i just think you can load the newest and not neccessarily the latest available per CDA via EMMA II..self updates are great..i should have probably not said its bull****... and for that i appologize..

I guess you don't know it is end users who 'spend a huge amount of Money' collectively. Just because you operate a Service Center doesn't make you 'spend a huge amount of Money' more than us, in fact, its our money whom you are earning. So wise up!

EH???!?!? What are you on about mate?

Probably ALL of it's money. That's exactly how businesses operate. They make something, sell it, and make a profit. They owe you feck all mate, except a warranty. So what if you bought the product.

How do you work that one out? I paid over £20K for my car, does that mean that Mercedes have an obligation to share their technical information with me. Don't think so!

Do you feel that since you paid x amount on your P900 that somehow Sony Ericsson owe you something. Jeez, people like you p*** me off. SE didn't put a gun to your head to make you buy their products, you chose to. It was the same on all the P800 forums, "wah wah P900 is out, I paid £500 for my P800 so SE owe me a new phone" Get a grip.

I've just read one too many posts from people who think that corporations owe them something just cos they bought the product. Rant over.

gosh!
anger management is needed here! perhaps you should not read these forums if youre going to get so upset...might crash your £20k car!

na mate, but between here, esato, allaboutsymbian and my-communicator there are far too many people who think that SE/Nokia/Motorola owe them more than they already paid for. :

Comments like "SE is earning most of its money from 'end users' like us. We have the right to know whatever makes the phone work." just wind me up. The same was said about the Nokia 7650 when it came out. People bought it and then whinged on and on in the newsgroups that it only had 4Mb memory and Nokia should offer them a free upgrade/phone/schematic diagrams, it's just plain stupid.

Anyway, I guess this is going wayyy off topic. Feel free to start a new thread if you want to share more opinions.

emma can only be used by se flash points and service centers -- not regular consumers like most of us... ie. you need to be a pro

wrt se's self flashing for the p900, try the "sticky" near the top of the uiq forum

Posted by: Genghis Khent

Now that Emma is resolved, getting back to the start of this thread, what are the benefits, if any, of this FW upgrade? Tx. Jeff

OI!
Don't be impolite. I am not a service center. I review phones to help people make decisions on what to buy. I do not have an EMMA account. I update my phone exactly like you do. If you want the EMMA service, you have to pay for it. You get some special Hardware and Software from Sony Ericsson, Somebody with more experience may have more input on this, but I believe you have a dongle etc on your PAR port to Authenticate.
Sony Ericsson does not want users updating their phones unless it is in a very controlled environment (a-la self update for P900). If they allowed it, they would likely get many more support calls from People breaking their phones. It is not a trivial task.
It's not about how much your phone costs - you are not entitled to special service because your phone is expensive. Emma II is a service tool. Meant for service people.
Let's try to get along here.. no need for personal attacks.

Sean

Back to topic.
I can't see any diffs yet. Phone is well behaved as usual, my BT problem has not resurfaced - so that is good. I was worried a bug was introduced.

Posted by: Genghis Khent

Thanks Sean for both the info and for calming things down. As you may have seen from other threads, HoFo unfortunately is becoming more like Esato lately

I think with this FW update I may do what I do when MS comes out with Service Packs ... wait a bit to see if the cure is worse than the disease. This is particularly true here where the existing issues are relatively minor.

Posted by: ShovelhEd

Likely a good idea!
sadly, I don't know if it is possible to "roll-back" if things go wrong. Is this possible? That, would be very handy indeed!

Good question, but dunno

Perhaps Rick or Sung from Virtual Dynamix can chime in if the Backup/Restore utility can accomplish the rollback.

I wasn't attacking you friend. Just wanted you to know that you sounded sarcastic when you made that 'end-user' expression. In any case, thanks for your candid reply about how to go becoming an Emma member or using its services.

From Shovelhed, it seems one can also be a 'pro' if you pay SE a little more.

My point is simply that since thread has been started, you guys who are pros of Emma, share with non-pro consumers here how to do that FW upgrade, IF, let's say they have an account.

If as Shovelhed has said, letting customers do their own flash via Emma is discouraged, then just put that disclaimer, 'try it at your own risk'.

Posted by: Kingamir45

Gentelmen..

You guys are murdering this topic..
first things first.. money will not buy you access to the EMMA server, not necessarily anyway..

second.. you need to be cleared by Sony Ericssons security team before they even send you the hardware for EMMA flashing..

its not easy, and yes you can screw your phone up if you dont know what your doing or what firmware your loading..for that reason Sony Ericsson does not allow EMMA usage to the end user.. ie (YOU)..

LETS PLEASE DISCUSS THE FIRMARE CHANGES AND NOT EMMA II ACCESS PERMISSION...

THANK YOU...

Heya..
The self-upgrades are here: http://www.sonyericsson.com/updateservice/P900/
that's all we need. It's the newest version that is best for your phone. Have you upgraded yours yet? What have you noticed diff?
I think that memory usage is better... I am not getting out of memory errors when running opera Sman and a couple others. Perhaps that has been improved? Lord knows how.. but maybe. Might just be me

Sounds good to me .. a little "loud" ... but I agree, and indeed have asked for information regarding the changes.

Since you are an official SE Service Point, could you enlighten me (us) regarding what those changes are or are supposed to be?

Thanks. Jeff

Posted by: Kingamir45

Changes in R3 are still skechy, i think more patches than any hardcore changes, but be patient a big firmware upgrade is coming..rumored reports from other SE Centers...

Posted by: oferlaor

big firmware change that includes, what exactly?

Posted by: SupraTT

I wish they could do something so we could use MS PRO Duo cards in our P900

Posted by: Cheech

I read somewhere that MS Pro support is the big update we all want!
