VM K7 Rave WAP access

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: southpark_dude

Ok (I am a newby sorry) from what I have read on this forum it looks impossible to change your homepage from the phone and access a outside network (virgin extras suck). So here is my theroy on how it might work:

So what if I setup a WAP on my computer and setup a redirect that when the virgin mobile extras page was requested it would instead connnect me to a site of my choosing (ie googles etc.)?

Anyone out there think this might work? I have been lurking on this forum for a few days and from what I have seen this is probley the only way without hacking the phone and getting a datacable.

doing that would make all virgin users in to the site you set . The would find out very quickly

Posted by: southpark_dude

Let me clarify:

By redirect I ment a local redirect ethier using my computers HOSTS file or my DNS server. Then the WAP would request the IP of the virgin extras site and my computers host file would answer before it asked one of the main DNS server with the site I want.

BTW I am screwing around with this idea right now. Trying to find a good WAP server.

Posted by: VMvirginmobile

ohhhh... I thought you were saying something completely different...

Posted by: Ntell~Nside

What ever happened to the guy who posted this. It would be coolif we could use this technique.

Posted by: clear617

The technique he described will likely never work assuming I understand correctly.

It would require one to change the IP address of the WAP gateway to something other than the default of 208.18.146.75 or 208.18.146.139. Although these settings can be changed in the phone, Virgin Mobile seems to be blocking all IP addresses other than their own gateways.

Posted by: vermontcellboy

Not Exactly. PM me, I'm really interested in what your saying.
When you connect...it does Connect to the Non-Virgin IP...but it doesn't take you anywhere further due to your homepage being set to VirginXTras. So it will connect to non-Virgin IPs. Let me give you an example of what I mean.
Virgin's XTras are closed, so they only can be accessed from Virgin's Gateway
D E F A U L T C O N N E C T I O N
You > > Virgin Gateway > > Virgin X Tras | OTHER GATEWAYS
(Other gateways are closed off)
What the Rave requests when you change gateways
You > > Other Gateway > > | Virgin X Tras.
That's why it says "Sending..." and then dies after "Sending" and not after connecting.
This user may be onto something.

Posted by: clear617

I see what you're saying. I suppose it all depends on what "sending..." and "connecting..." really mean. I was under the impression that "connecting..." meant the phone was just establishing a connection with the cell towers, and sending meant it was sending data to the WAP gateway.

Of course, there is one way to check this for sure:

One of the users with an old Slider (that can use the free WAP trick) should change their WAP gateway to something other than virgin's. They are able to bypass the default homepage and go straight to the URL of their choice. Thus, if they can get their phones to work with another WAP gateway, we know there's potential.

Posted by: vermontcellboy

It is my theory that Connecting is Connecting to the IP..because when Waptunnel was down, Connecting failed if I remember correctly (when my IP was set to Waptunnel's) and Sending always fails because as explained above.
I think Steve, (Is that VMVirginMobile's name) has an old Slider that he could use to test it out. I'm sure he'll see this thread and try that out.. I have Gateway IP's anyone who's testing can use.

Why cant we simply change our ip to another gateway. I doubt the ability to change it (and still connect) is impossible bcause we can access sites with their own ip addres. I have tried this b4 but h got 'scheme' or sumthin like that.although there could b a block, if there was, we wouldnt b able to access this very site! This could b the newest discovered benifit of our 'vulnurable' (however u spell that!) phones.

i have been using the waptunnel gateway for a while now any others you want me to try

Posted by: clear617

Do me a favor and visit the site http://pisces.mit.edu/ on your phone. It will give you an error, but that doesn't matter. I just want to see what shows up in the logs of the server so I can tell for sure what gateway you are coming from.

Once you've done this let me know the exact time you did it so I can find it in my logs. Thanks.

Posted by: clear617

Yup, I got your two visits at 11:22pm and 11:23pm EST:

208.18.146.72 - - [03/Mar/2004:23:22:32 -0500] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 302 261 "-" "SE47/1.0.00 UP.Browser/4.1.26l UP.Link/5.0.2.9"
208.18.146.141 - - [03/Mar/2004:23:23:33 -0500] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 302 261 "-" "SE47/1.0.00 UP.Browser/4.1.26l UP.Link/5.0.2.9"

So, yes, those are the Virgin IPs you're coming from. I think waptunnel is down right now (and has been for the past several days) so you can't really try them. I don't know of any others to try at the moment.

Posted by: Aeos

so have we figured out if this works? i know on my RAVE, the esn matches that of the slider with the wap exploit, and i can change IP address, ive gotten as far as the vm xtras but stopped with security error cuz im on a metropcs phone...

If anyone knows how to find the ip on the sprint vision please tell because that ip could solve our problems

Posted by: clear617

Sprint Vision probably uses the same IPs. I suspect Sprint simply allows better access based on the ESN of the phone.

Wirelessly posted (SE47/1.0.00 UP.Browser/4.1.26l UP.Link/5.0.2.9)

So you think it won't work?

Posted by: vermontcellboy

A Sprint Vision Gateway would not help since the phone is requesting a URL as I described earlier. I assume access to that URL is only via the Virgin Provided/Sprint gateway.
That is why Waptunnel doesn't work. ONce again. A diagram
Rave>requests special VXTras URL>Connects (via 208.18.146.75)
Rave>requests special VXTras URL||| CLOSED. | (via alternate gateway)

I think this might work you should try it it doesnt hurt to try

Posted by: vermontcellboy

Yes. But you have to know what URL the Rave is requesting, and reroute it to Google or any other gateway, from which as per my assumptions, in turn, you could route to other websites. It hsould be a portal since it has a lot of links. Plus you must have WAP serving software, and be ready for thousands of requests for access from the users of the Kyocera forum

Posted by: C-money

it is a good idea but i have no idea how he could keep that up or if he could do it we really are at a dead end with our wap if i was 18 i would have been the first to have a verizon slider

Posted by: clear617

I tried such a method -- it doesn't work. Not one packet arrived on my own machine (I sniffed to make sure). Sprint seems to block any data leaving their network that doesn't go through the WAP gateway. There's more than just a URL problem.

Does anyone know any good rooms on irc for phones

Posted by: Aeos

ok, so we need to change the gateway. how difficult can that really be? if i have to, can i do this with a data cable and some software on my pc?
i dont mind setting up a gateway on my computer if i can change the gateway on my phone so it reads it...

Also, i need the programming codes for the KX433 (not KE433), especially the one that allows me into the blocked ip address and all the other junk in there.

Posted by: C-money

Wirelessly posted (SE47/1.0.00 UP.Browser/4.1.26l UP.Link/5.0.2.9)

What we have found out is basicly sprint phone towers will not let a phone connected to them connect with a non sprint ip so you can try but it probably won't work

Posted by: Aeos

well, what i want to do is set up a gateway on my pc, change the gateway on my phone and there we go.
now how do i go about changing the gateway on my phone... its the kx433 metropcs RAVE

Posted by: clear617

Well, my point is basically that Sprint has a firewall. Your phone can ONLY access the Sprint WAP gateway. It will not be able to use your PC as a gateway because the firewall blocks it. The only reason that internet sites are accessable is because the Sprint gateway is not firewalled on the other side. In effect, any IP packet that leaves Sprint's internal network must eminate from their WAP gateway.

Posted by: C-money

Wirelessly posted (SE47/1.0.00 UP.Browser/4.1.26l UP.Link/5.0.2.9)

This is the easiest waz to put it sprint knows when your not using a sprint gate way so it stops your phone from wap access

Posted by: vermontcellboy

I beg to differ.
You can connect via another gateway. Just it doesn't work because it's requesting a PAGE that is not accessible from non-Sprint gateways. If you could change your homepage, you could use an alt. gateway
But it is correct that VXtras are firewalled.
-AG

Posted by: clear617

Well, if that was true, all the people who have free WAP would be able to use an alternate gateway, but they can't. The free WAP never requests the homepage, it goes straight to the website in their contact list. But it doesn't work with an alternate gateway.

You are right g was trying to put it in very simple terms. I want to buy the kyocera flashing program because im sure you could change the default home page with that

Posted by: vermontcellboy

Your right.
Virgin does both.
They don't allow a non-Virgin Gateway and they don't allow Xtras to be used.
Why don't we start a fund, and save up $150 to get the PST. 15 people donate $10 and we're good. But the problem is, some of the sites are probably scams. If not 90-95% of them.
-AG

Posted by: clear617

I'm fairly certain the browser homepage is not actually stored on the device. So it's probably not something you can change with the PST. The WAP gateway actually transmits the homepage URL to the phone when you connect to the gateway.

Posted by: C-money

im not sure about that when i used my dads pcs vision ip it still went to virgin extras

Posted by: Aeos

look.... the discussion is getting us nowhere. can someone please a)give me the programming codes for the kx433... and b)show me where to find the software to change the gateway when i get my data cable.

Posted by: C-money

Try 111111 then 868666 for the code that might be wrong g dont have that phone

Posted by: Aeos

i believe that works for the kE433, but i know for sure it does not work with the kx433

Posted by: xbox hacker

I am trying to connect with a Rave K7....it says connecting, then askes for a home page URL... no matter what i type in i get "bad gateway". How can i change the IP in the phone to the waptunnel.com ip??

Posted by: C-money

Wirelessly posted (SE47/1.0.00 UP.Browser/4.1.26l UP.Link/5.0.2.9)

You cant sprint blocks it

Posted by: xbox hacker

I dont have sprint....i have Metropcs. When i try to connect i get a "Bad Gateway".....so i want to chane the ip, on my vox 8900 i got a bad gateway and changed the IP and it worked.

Posted by: C-money

Wirelessly posted (SE47/1.0.00 UP.Browser/4.1.26l UP.Link/5.0.2.9)

Oh sorry i dont know the metro pcs programming code

Posted by: Aedinsf

The programming code to make changes to the browser for MetroPCS is 587846. This is also the lock code should you decide to change your programming (MIN/Home SID/MDN)

Now, does anyone know the security code to access the BREW URL and BREW Prepay?

Posted by: vermontcellboy

Probably somewhere in the PST if you wanna mess with BREW on a Metro phone.
At lesat that's the way it is with Motos.

Posted by: chomby

I have a Rave. I highly doubt that WAP is possible 'till XL comes out.
