Eesh this is a boring little phone. Is there a way to quickly change profile settings (like the V60i? or Nokia?). What else can I do, I am restricted on Ringtones, the phone is unlocked...

Changing profiles: tap * key and then use the right softkey to select profile. If you hold the * key, you'll go into silent mode.

Sure you can do lots with it! First get yourself a data cable for the M55 and d/l the data suite from www.my-siemens.com. Then go to various sites (www.siemens-java.com is a good start) and start loading stuff into your phone! Please search various other threads (data cable threads and A56>C56 conversion) to see what you can do!

Ringtones are a snap because .mid files will load right in and the phone will convert automatically into .si3 format. This was so much easier than my Nokia! Also, I put in a Nokia Tune ringtone for my Siemens. I bet that'll turn heads amongst cell phone freaks. Go to www.planete-nokia.com for a bunch of really good polyphonic ring tones.

Also, for the screensaver animation, you can create your own. Do a search on this forum (at work now, no time to find thread) for .bmx files. There was a post somewhere that tells you how to make an animation. The factory animations are very boring.

I'm having so much fun with my A56>C56 that I've put my Nokia 7250i aside for a couple of weeks! Hope you'll enjoy your phone!

Hi mosquito,

Do you have any luck with Fido using their WAP on the C56? I keep getting the Incorrect CSD profile message. (I have nothing entered in CSD.)

Thanks for you help in advance!

Here, try this: (settings are as per my phone)

Setup>Connectivity
Check GPRS
Uncheck Authentication
Select WAP Profiles
Go to an Empty profile and rename it, let's say "Fido WAP"
Select Fido WAP and Edit

Now... inside the profile:
2. WAP Parameters:
IP address: 205.151.011.011
2nd addy: 205.151.011.011
Port: 9201
Homepage: http://wap.fido.ca
Linger time: 60 seconds (dunno if this matters)
Hit Save and Back
3. CSD settings:
Items should be all blank
4. GPRS Settings:
Deactivate GPRS: No (of course!)
APN: wap.fido.ca
Login Name: fido
Password: fido
Hit SAVE and BACK

Now back out to Profiles menu and make sure Fido WAP is selected.

Don't need to touch HTTP profiles.

And I think that's about it!

Let me know if it works... or not.

Hello, thanks for your instructions. However they didn't work for me.

I have double check my current setting and they are the same as you described. When I try to connect to the internet, it gives me "Incorrect CSD profile". I checked mine and CSD setting is all blank. Is it trying to use CSD anyway even though I have GPRS enabled?

Maybe there is a way to disable CSD totally? I am not sure. I called both Fido and Siemens and of course they were kicking me around and claim that they are not responsible for getting it to work.

Cheers!

Hmmm... that's kinda weird! I think this has happened to me when I checked "authentication", although I'm not 100% sure. Make sure your Authentication is not checked. Also, make sure you are allowed GPRS on your account!

Of course Siemens and Fido are not gonna say anything... we're on our own here! There's no way to switch off CSD. Oh... one more thing to check on your CSD settings: Make sure it's ISDN and not Analogue. I dunno if it makes a diff, but for me it's set at ISDN and works.

All the best!

It finally worked.

And guess what? Fido didn't set it up right. After several calls of blaming and denying, it finally worked(without an explaination of course.) It just suddenly worked.

Oh well.. What's new?

Thanks a lot for your patient on helping out!

Cheers!

Glad it worked!! Welcome to Fido GPRS! Just one quick reminder... somewhere in the settings there's this "SMS via GPRS". Best to uncheck this one because otherwise you'll be charged for GPRS. I was playing with the phone again and I found this option was selected... if you're on F2F and send a lot of SMS, using GPRS would hurt you pretty good!

BTW, is your phone an unlocked C56 or a A56>C56 conversion?
Just curious...

Thanks for the tip! I will check that out.

It's the actual C56, my friend got it from BestBuy on boxing day for 30 bucks(Canadian that is.)

Cheers!

hey all...i just successfully unlocked my c56 and was wondering where this speakerphone button is during a call. Is it handsfree? I didnt hear anything from the other line when i pressed that.

Thanks

P.S. What other cool stuff is there on this?

Posted by: Zombie999

It is handsfree, but default volume is always at minimum. So just turn up the volume every time you activate speakerphone.

By the way, what kind of cable did you use to unlock it?

geez...the C56 has the best reception out of all the phones ive ever used!!! I thought the nokia 3595's reception was good...C56 just kills it! wow....i was never able to use my phone at my college for some reason and after using the C56 for the first time i can make calls at school. Ive been waiting for awhile now for 850 Mhz band to be up cuz of this. 850 is still not up around here...i cant imagine the reception when the new band is implemented. Im very impressed with this phones performance...if only it were colour itd be totally awesome.

This is my experience as well. At my home Rogers signal is very weak. But C56 gets 2 bars

man, the battery life on this is real weak...

anyhoo, i was wondering if anyone knows if the c56 can send email sms's. Its a real drawback for me if i cant email on the go... i havent been able to find the option to do this.
