when you set a picture to be someone's photo id, does it copy the picture to somewhere else so you can delete the file from the picture viewer? thanks!

yes

Does anyone know where this 'thumbnail' photo is? I have a picture of someone that sucks and I want to delete it before I get a replacement but am unsure of where to do this.....thanks.

you do it from the contact you have the picture, just go to the picture, click/tap on it and you can delete it.

When you select a photo ID picture in Contacts it simply points to the image wherever it may be stored under your available image folders. If you delete/replace the image from Contacts that does not delete the actual file.

As far as I know the thumbnail is generated as needed and not stored as a separate image file, so if you want to delete the image then find it manually using the Picture Viewer.

Hope this helps.

When I sent my entire Contacts folder via Bluetooth from my old P800 to the P900 it also sent the id photos - but they did not appear in the picture viewer in the P900.

I use a small synch ML server on my home pc to sync my various phones.. you can see the JPEGs in the files as text
The pics travel with the contact Dbase and are indeed separate files

Code:
Explicit type 'text/x-vcard' specified in command or item meta Version '2.1' obtained from item data parseMimeDir: property unknown: PHOTO;TYPE=JPEG;ENCODING=BASE6 Successfully parsed: BEGIN:VCARD VERSION:2.1 REV:20031121T224551Z N:xxxxxx;xxxxx;;; TEL;HOME:16132354539 EMAIL;INTERNET;PREF:xxxxxxxxx@mds.nordion.com PHOTO;TYPE=JPEG;ENCODING=BASE64: /9j/4AAQSkZJRgABAQAAAQABAAD/2wBDAAgGBgcGBQgHBwcJCQgKDBQNDAsLDBkS Ew8UHRofHh0aHBwgJC4nICIsIxwcKDcpLDAxNDQ0Hyc5PTgyPC 4zNDL/2wBDAQkJ CQwLDBgNDRgyIRwhMjIyMjIyMjIyMjIyMjIyMjIyMjIyMjIyMj IyMjIyMjIyMjIy MjIyMjIyMjIyMjIyMjL/wAARCACbANADAREAAhEBAxEB/8QAHwAAAQUBAQEBAQEA AAAAAAAAAAECAwQFBgcICQoL/8QAtRAAAgEDAwIEAwUFBAQAAAF9AQIDAAQRBRIh MUEGE1FhByJxFDKBkaEII0KxwRVS0fAkM2JyggkKFhcYGRolJi coKSo0NTY3ODk6 Q0RFRkdISUpTVFVWV1hZWmNkZWZnaGlqc3R1dnd4eXqDhIWGh4 iJipKTlJWWl5iZ mqKjpKWmp6ipqrKztLW2t7i5usLDxMXGx8jJytLT1NXW19jZ2u Hi4+Tl5ufo6erx 8vP09fb3+Pn6/8QAHwEAAwEBAQEBAQEBAQAAAAAAAAECAwQFBgcICQoL/8QAtREA

If anyone is interested the software is from Synthesis.

Sean,

Am interested in the SyncML extension for Exchange. Got link? Can't seem to find the Synthesis web site, even through Google.
