I have CINGULAR WIRELESS from the san francisco bay area..

can anyone help me out?? post here or email to fernando@fernando.com I guess i might need to return the phone..

There are a couple of potential problems with languages.

If you don't get the language option at all, it means your SIM is too old - probably 16K. Get a 32K SIM from Cingular, and you're half way there.

Once you do get a proper SIM, when you put it in the first time, it'll come up in DUTCH! This is because the S40 looks to the SIM to determine its home language, and at least some Cingular SIMs were programmed with the Dutch language code. Once you get to this point, you can change it to english by starting at the idle screen and pressing <MENU> 4, 1, 2.

Good luck.

I have that problem before too...

in the main screen press the "green dot" button, then go down to the 4th item, it should be "phone setup", click on the first item after (should be in "language") and you should see "English"

Somehow, the language on my phone has changed from English to German (I think). I have tried the process in the quote above, but it did not work for me. It seems like "Language" is no longer an option in my "phone setup" menu. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Sorry everyone! After a more detailed search, I found the solution to my problem. If anyone else also has this problem, here are some codes one can use:

In standby mode enter the following codes for the language of your choice:

Siemens S 40 Secret Codes

Menüsprache Englisch *#0001#
Menüsprache Griechisch *#0030#
Menüsprache Holländisch *#0031#
Menüsprache Französisch *#0032#
Menüsprache Spanisch *#0034#
Menüsprache Italienisch *#0039#
Menüsprache Deutsch *#0049#
Menüsprache Türkisch *#0090#

Naturally, for those S40 English users, use the code *#0001#
