Email Ringtones?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

i read somewhere, don't quite remember where, that you can email ringtones and graphics, as an attachment, to your phone number. is this true? if so, what would the email address be? thanks.

You can to the LGV6000. Just send an email to (your phone #)@vzwpix.com ie 123456789@vzwpix.com with the ringtone as an attachment. If you have unlimited picture messaging it is free, if not then it costs I think it's .20 to use. (don't quote me on the price)

Yes you can with Verizon's Picture Messeging Service like the above poster said. Another option would be to upload ringtones to your phone using a data cable and software if your provider doesn't have the mms service.

I've tried sending a ringtone from my email (outlook) and from the vzwpix.com site and it sends fine, but after my phone receives it, it says "Failed to play pix Msg."

Why won't this work for me?

Posted by: Kardnl1

What type of file did you try and send?

Posted by: doffmaster

I've tried multiple .mid files and a .mp3 and neither one works. I can send a picture fine, but it won't play the sound.

Hmm, I don't know if you can email Mp3's because of their size but I know you can do midi's. I think the largest size via email is under 30K.

1. Send an email to your phone from an outside email provider ie Outlook. (not verizon's website)
2. Give the message a title. It is necessary or it won't come through.
3. Attach the file. (I would start with a shortened midi as a test)

Once the pic message is received you should be able to play the song.

I hope this helps...

got the same problem and same error message
don't know what the heck i'm doing wrong

my midi file is only 5KB

phone says "failed to play pix msg"

and i guess verizon will still charge me the 25 cents for the upload

maybe it would be cheaper to just get the cable
at this rate

haha

Hmm, well I just tried to email myself a midi file and it played perfectly. So now I am stumped as to why you folks are having problems. The only thing I can guess is that maybe your pic messaging is not set up correctly with verizon or you didn't set up the pic message account on the vzw website. Those are the only things I can think of. Sorry, I can't offer any more assistance.

I got the data cable and noticed that the same ringers will not play on this phone. Most of the ringers I have are from my old t720. Those midis are type "0" and won't work on the vx6000. Other types work though.

How do you know what type of midi you have?

ok i gotta ringtone thats a zipped file....can i send that to my phone (lg vx 6000) as it is or do i have to unzip it? and if so how do i unzip it?

I have succesfully sent 3 mp3 ringers to my phone...but I've unsucessfully sent 4...some just dont work! I get the "Failed to play pix message" even though they are under 30k and I have used the same steps to do it. I dont think Im an idiot....so I dont know what could be wrong?

figured it out...at least for me...when you save it it has to be 16kps, 16000 Hz, and Mono the 16000 Hz is where I was having the problem - saving files to different Hz

are they stripping attachments now?
I used to be able to send midi and mp3 to vzwpix and now all I get is empty messages with an error about "attachedment dropped" no reason why.

I called them and of course everything is rosey but they can't figure it out becaue I'm not using the bend over now service.

Anyone able to send a sound attachment to their vx6k today?

Cheers

yes it worked for me just now today

i don't understand kd i did everything u said. I emailed a 27k midi file named song.midi to number@vzwpix.com i do have an account set up there and i recieved the message and it says "attachment dropped: <song.midi> of type:<audio/x-midi; name="song.midi"> I tried song.mid also but it doesn't work i sent the email from an aol account. song is 16kbps.

Posted by: smebbsta

iceberg what kind of mp3 editor did you use and did you use kardnl's method? I use acoustica mp3 editor but when i save the file as an mp3 it says 16kbps 2.5 MPEG layer but it doesn't show the sampling rate the 16000 Hz. Also did you change the mp3 to a midi file?

Posted by: reapur

I think the verizon network is messed up.
I was able to send myself a midi after i posted then it broke then it worked.....
who knows.

Posted by: Iceberg802

I used Cool Edit Pro. and all I did was take the bass out using an equalizer and then save it to 16kps 16000hz as an mp3, then changed it to .mid and made sure it was under 30k and then emailed it to my number....works every time now

Well you people should read my thread on how to send from Verizon's site, if all this is failing you.

The thread is called How to send mp3 ringtones to your phone via Verizon's Site. It is located -----> HERE .

It's a step by step on how to send. It also cover's how to change the extention so you fool the server into thinking it's one kind of song when it's actually another.

I should point out this thread is basically for people who have phones that can play true music. i.e. mp3's. But the basic concept is still the same for sending midi's to your phone.
