X70 - can't check firmware

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hey all,

I've read a few posts on how to check the firmware on the X70.

I've read that you press #9999# when it's searching for network. Am I doing something wrong? It doesn't seem to work for me.

Also, how do you guys do a search on the x70 in this forum? It seems like it doesn't like searching for 3 character words.

Anyway, thanks in advance.

It's nothing, you've forgot to press on the * key. While searchin' for network, press *#9999#. This'll do the job

Oh, HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH, DOH!

Thanks dude!

I have firmware A24. Anyone else have this version with any sort of experience? Good? Bad?

Thanks

A24? Goodness me I'm 4 versions back. Could you please tell me if there are any improvements made considering the camera (do you experience blue dots, does it have smoother refresh), or better battery performance? Thanx

Posted by: ZeroFighter

There's still blue dots/streaks on the screen while you're tying to take photos in the dark.

Battery wise, I get about 3 days with moderate usage, which is better than I expected reading from other users' experiences.

Hmm... anything else you'd like me to check?

Posted by: ZeroFighter

Sorry, apparently I read too fast

I have A25

A25?!... wow, I'm really back, I have A18!
Can you tell me if you have some of the following problems:
1. sometimes the camera locks. You cannot access it AND the external display backlight does not work. Only solution is to switch the mobile off and on.
2. sometimes IR and bluetooth lock. Only solution is to switch the mobile off and on.

No other problem noticed till now.

Thanks

I have A20 and I don't have these problems. You should probably upgrade the firmware version

Posted by: robpiggott

if you upgrade the firmware do you lose all your tones, pictures and contacts??

Rob

Posted by: valtrex

Don't know. If I judge from GD/GU 87/88 probably you will. I've read though in other forums that this is not so. Don't know really

flashing deletes everything

Posted by: tond

I just upgraded my X70 from A18 to A28 in a Panasonic center.
I did not loose contacts, personal pictures and sounds, mms settings. I lost only the voice tags for voice dialling and the names in the user1-5 folders located in the personal data folders (they were empty in any case).
I will check to see if the problems of A18 are solved and if there is some other change.

so A28 is the latest firmware?? any improvement made to the camera through the update of the firmware??

Posted by: tond

The only improvement (A18 to A28) I really can see is the "Twilight" mode in the camera (Night mode). Now you can use it and it makes "decent" pictures if the subjet does not move.
In daylight condition it's very difficult to understand if there is some difference. In my opinion camera is good only for mms.
I'm testing the battery, hoping it will last a little longer...

Till now no BT locks (knocking on wood...)

Personal notes: I like this phone very much, it's very nice to use, fully customisable and with a good rf section. The camera is really poor (poorer than GD87), battery is just acceptable, nothing more.
I don't like that if you press the external key just to turn on the backlight the phone clears all missed calls and new messages! In this way the external display is useful only in the day, but during night you still have to open the phone to see if someone called you.

thanks for replying Tond. anyway, more questions, sorry. ^,^

are those ugly blue dots still on screen when there's not enough lighting? i can live with the bad quality photos since i'm only taking snapshot for fun but the blue dots... that's another story. i'm kinda hoping that the upgrade wiill get rid of those irritating dots.

Posted by: tond

Yes, blue dots are still there if light is not enough. It seems anyway (remember I said "it seems") that in medium light condition things are better.
I try to attach a photo of my monitor. Today is a cloudy day (I think it will snow soon...) so light is not so good in my office.

since the blue dots are there, i guess i won't be updating my firmware (they might not even have the latest firmware here anyway) unless there's some other significance improvement made to the other area of the phone. i'm quite happy with it at the moment. thanks for your prompt replies Tond and also for the photo sample. ^_^

Just to make sure, when I do *#9999# I get at the very top of the page a long list of numbers and letters at the end of this list is says A20-20, this is my firmware right?

When I rang up Panasonic the other day, they told me that A20 was the latest version!!!

Posted by: valtrex

Yes, the long list of letters and numbers, is technical characteristics, don't know what they mean. The firmware version is the last part that says Axx. Te people who told you that A20 is the latest version, probably don't know what they're saying. Here in this thread, tond posted that he just upgraded his phone with the latest version, A28!!!

i don't understand, tond, where do you upgrade your firmware? directly with Panasonic??

Posted by: tond

I found in the Panasonic web site where was the closer Panasonic service center (it's a service where they repair various brands, but they are "official" Panasonic service).
Look here for France:

aaaah... more new version? hmm.. kinda tempted to get it upgraded then.

to Athina : it should be done free at the panasonic centre i think, if you have you warranty card or proof of purchase or something.

Yes, if you have the proof of purchasing it or the warranty card, Panasonic's policy is to upgrade th firmware for free, for the first year of purchasing the phone, worldwide

Does A29 fix some of the bluetooth issues? The bug I'm hoping they would fix is when you have to wait till you connect with a caller to be able to transfer the call from the handset to the bluetooth headset. That's my only gripe about the phone. Otherwise I love it.

Posted by: neas

I realised that nobody actually noticed any further improvement with the laates firmware except for the camera. Is that the only improvement, that the blue dots seem less?

Posted by: samantha4

I've heard there is the A30 version for the blue dots improvement...

Posted by: JohnnY BlinG

a30 also has an option (apparently) to take pics bigger than 132x176

Posted by: chris86

Mine has A28 and there is plenty with problems.
I bought for about 6 days ago
