GD88 ringtone help...

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Does anyone know how to get .amr files to play as ringtones? I downloaded these tones but my GD88 won't let me select these files as ringtones that I can use. The phone has no problem playing the tones it just won't let me use them as ringtones. Anyone else have this problem? What file types will the phone let you use as ringtones? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, there is not an option to use AMR as ringtone, as it is associated with the voice recorder....

So, you can use MIDI tones & MFM tones as ringtones...., you can convert any .wav file into a MFM to use if you want.

Go here for 300 MFM tones:

Hey thanks for the help Chris! One last question though, what's the difference between MIDI and MMF files? Which provides the better ringtone quality (sound quality, loudness, accuracy)? Which do you recommend using on the GD88? Thanks!

Well I know for a fact that the midi tones are just the instrumental king of ring tones that you can hear like the symbols and what not bbut the MMF is like a convert .wav file. I haven't tried sending MMF's to my phone yet because I just got the phone today but I'd assume they're good quality ringtones because they're converted over from wav files.

Quality wise, the MIDI sounds better....

The MFM are not that great quality..., they are an 8000khz MONO wav file (Note*compared to CD quality being Stereo 44khz), BEFORE your conversion to a MFM tone..

But, you can make MFM's really loud(as you want)!!!, which is useful.

Some MIDI's can be made louder with MIDIFixer program, although it is limited to how loud you can make them - but usually it will improve the loudness of a standard MIDI a fair bit...

So, MIDI sounds clean, MFM not so clean, but you can convert whatever sound, voice, song, you want, from MP3, .wav into an MFM, by first converting it to the .wav specs I mentioned above, and then using Wav2MFM to convert it to MFM...

So, it is quick and easy to make your own tones, increase the volume, use voice samples, whatever....

Hope this helps,

Chris
