Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anybody purcahsed the datacable for the LG4600 from FutureDial (or anywhere else) and were successfull with uploading free ringtones, wallpapers, games, etc!?!

thanks!

Posted by: panthrlvr

I ordered the cable myself and will be recieving it today. I will let you know what happens when I give it a try on the weekend. That is if no one answers you first.

I bought a FutureDial data cable through a private sale, received it some time ago now.

The cable works flawlessly with Bitpim .62.

I've successfully loaded midi and mp3 ringtones, wallpapers and java games.

Cheers,

Dali

I got my cable and have uploaded images, ringtones, and mp3s woth no problem. Although you must resample the mp3s and cut them to max 60 sec. long.

hey panthrlvr, where did u order your data cables from?

I just picked up my LG 4600 yesterday. Pretty cool phone. My first cell phone
Thanks!

I ordered mine directly from Future Dial in the States. It is a bit pricey for shipping but very quick. Got it in 2 days. Works excellent. Still haven't found software to sync it with my outlook yet though but know should be something soon. Dealers here are still waiting for the cable and had one tell me he expects it shortly. I'm just someone who hates to wait...lol

I have had many phones and really like this one. My fiance also got one and this is her first. She is in heaven...

Thanks for the replies guys.

Dali - Where did you download Bitpim from? Where do you find those java games?

panthrlvr - What software did you use? Where did you get it from? Did it come with the cable or did you download/purchase it separately? - also, if u dont mind my asking, what did the total shipping/cost/customs come to for the cable?

thanks!

BitPIM is available here . I'm seriously thinking about writing the portion of code to support the 4600/5450 (and AudioVox 8900) natively, however, right now I don't have much spare time to hack at it - maybe we can pull some brains together with the guys that did most of the hacking. I'm also lacking a data cable as I just don't think I like to pay $30USD to a $30USD cable shipped to my house. And when you play with a phone like that, it's best to have a spare one you can play with (although that will be hard to come by, except the case for TM520 where my co-worker has replaced his so I got a phone to play around with enhancing the TM520 support).

Right now, BitPIM will do most of what you need as long as you know what files to modify on the filesystem. I'm slowly picking up Python (what BitPIM was written in) and I think I just need to familiarize myself with the APIs to make some contribution to the code.

I used BitPim to upload to my phone use version .62 as .7 will sometimes not completely make the directory and refresh right.

The cable I am not sure what the total cost will be Can. as I haven't got the credit card bill yet. It is a bit pricey for the shipping but was here in 2 days. And when Telus dealers get them it usually costs around $100 for them. So I am not to worried about the cost.

Dali> I am also wondering how you uploaded the Java games and where you got them from. If you could detail your process that would be great.

Now if I could just find some software to be able to sync my calendar and phonebook with outlook I would be hapy.

Is that the only site to get the cable from? 30 bucks for shipping is nuts. Thats 30 bucks US too right? I'm in Canada...it'll be even more! Do they even ship to Canada? Never the less, the cable works just fine you all say? What is the name of the cable to get?

Posted by: KGB

The reason why the TELUS cables are expensive is because of the 1X software, which you don't really need. But nonetheless, I had my parents checked with Radio Shack down at Bellis Fair with no luck..... personally I wouldn't have bought data cable (actually the 1x kit) from TELUS - it comes with a CD that has the drivers and the 1X dialer software and the cable, but the drivers you can find online, you don't really need the 1x dialer and you're paying thru the nose for it. At least, I didn't have to pay for it but well over $100 for the kit that I got for the TM520.

Hi, I got a LG 4600 and i have juste receive my vx6000/vx400 cable from RPI Wireless.

And can t get it to work....the driver. I have try ever driver givent and etc.

I wonder if anyone could help me.

thank ^^

Posted by: panthrlvr

The cable that you got from RPI wireless does it have a black box on the cable or is it just a straight through cable.

If it does not have the box on the cable others have been having the same problem.

The cable I got from Future dial had the drivers included and worked no problem.

Posted by: hkl0013

Ok I manage to make it work the driver somehow...wow
Lucky
It s really the driver part that is a bit mess up. I try it on 4 PC and only one was working. That is when i came back from work...strange.

Anyhow. I manage to upload images and sounds ^^

thnx

btw. My RPI wire had a black box.

I just bought the cable from Future Dial and I was able to upload images with Bitpim .7-test2. I can only do it through the file system feature though. I use the makeindex program to create the .desc files thanks to Zaediex. I will try mp3's this weekend. I ordered the cable through FutureDial's web site and it ended up costing me $73.65 Canadian after the exchange rate. That includes shipping. I haven't received my customs bill yet but I'm sure it's coming.

Wow that much? I got mine from RPI and it ended up like 40-45$ Can. with shipping.... + a 10$ off coupon inc.

Well hope thing will work out for you ^^

I tried out MP3's with the futuredial cable on my phone and I can confirm that they work too. Everything was done using the filesystem feature of bitpim, and the makeindex program.

Hi, I was lookin onthe Futuredial site, and there is the CLGIM04-03 data cable, called "LG VX6000/1200/4600/5450 USB Data Cable ", is that the one that you guys have been using? and I can upload java games that i find on the net? and does it come with software which tells me/converts for me, the songs/images?
thanks.

Posted by: rperumal

Yes the CLGIM04-03 is the right cable and it doesn't come with any software except the drivers. So far I've only uploaded images and mp3's to the phone with the cable. I haven't tried doing games yet so i don't know if games work or not. If anyone else has been successful please post how you did it. As for the software - I used Bitpim which can be found at:

http://bitpim.sourceforge.net/

and I used Zaediex's program called makeindex to make the .desc files needed. Makeindex can be found at:

http://www.zaediex.org/8900/

If you need detailed instructions on how to upload images and mp3's, then do some searches on this board and you should be able to get the information you need, the same instructions that work for the LG 5450 also work for the vx4600. Hope this helps.

ah thanks for the info, i was also surfin thru ebay 'n i found these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...&category=35211

those are for the LG VX6000, with the black box in the middle, looks the same as the one offered by Futuredial, but would that work with the 4600 as well? has anyone tried it? i searched the other threads, but all of them ended with "i just got the cable from ebay, i'll post up the results" and those posts would be a few weeks old!

so just wondering, sine the Futuredial ones are a bit pricey, since $30USD + $30USD for shipping.

hello everyone. i just got my data cable from a random provider, tangshop.com for cheap and got it shipped to canada for USD$5, basically it seemed like the cheapest deal around. anyways, now that i have it, it doesn't sync with my phone, i.e. my phone is not even recognized by windows as a device.

i noticed my friend's old samsung has the same data pins, so plugged it in to test it, and at least windows found new hardware then. i keep trying with mine but have no luck.

is there anything special i have to do to the phone? basically the black box in the middle has the red light for charging on, and that's the only use i can get out of it at this point. i beg for some help...

thank you guys in advance.

ps: one more thing, this cable was listed as "LG VX-6000 / VX-4600 / 5450 USB Data Cable". this is the right one right?

It could be that you have the "USB" straight-through cable and the black box is only for charging. This won't do you much good on the 4600, as it only has Serial connectivity, it seems.

Your cable should work fine for the 5450 and Audiovox 8900, though, if you have some friend to sell it to.
