Sharp GX30 manual

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Ed

Decided to search the FCC website today (only the 2nd time I've ever done it) and look what was put up there yesterday!

Part One

Part Two

Adobe Acrobat reader needed.

Having read it through, the main additions from the GX20 are a 1 megapixel camera, , a higher capacity battery, SD card slot, MP3 player and Bluetooth.
Physically the GX30 has a bigger external display (96x64) and the speaker has moved from the back to the front.

Disappointments are that it doesnt *seem* to be able to play MP3 ringtones, still a lack of alerts for calendar entries and the mobile light colours still can't be assigned to different callers.
and there is still a visible antenna.

This is not the finished manual though, with large chunks seemingly copied directly from the GX20 manual.

The rest is up to Vodafone. If they release the kind of Java applications that this phone is capable of, such as TV/Video remote control apps, Java cartoon characters that can access your phonebook and tell you who you haven't called in a while, and Java standby screens that never standby, then this phone will be very good.

WOAHHHHHHHH

I WANT THIS FONE!!!!!!!!

but do you think there will be non-vodafone version?? perhaps like a hongkong version??? gx32 or smthing... coz i dont like the whole vodafone customising the menu screen and stuff...

but so goooooooooood

i want iwant i want i want!!!!

Posted by: Confused69u

nice.. does it allow stereo output?

Posted by: RKFChan

i think the GX20 looks better than the GX30

Posted by: hocky

Only 32 chords ringing tones? Now isn't that a little disppointing unless they make MP3 ringtones possible like the Inno-90.

Posted by: AMD1600

OMG!!!!

I've just bought GX-22s & this GX-30 comes in!!!

If this comes to Singapore anytime soon. I gotta sell away my phone soon & wait for this man.!

Posted by: Ferrarisimo

GX-22 + Bluetooth, 1 megapixel camera, and SD slot = GX-30?

Sold!

Posted by: jboston511

I just saw this on phonescoop, had to see if there was any news here, this phone looks like its gonna be awesome, i want one.

Posted by: hocky

Heh, I just email Sharp Singapore an article on why they dun carry mobile phones in Singapore. I can foresee the GX-30 to be a hit in Singapore. Hope Sharp Singapore wakes up and I can see the GX-30 in Singapore market.

Posted by: AMD1600

Will any GX-2* owners will buy the upcoming GX-30?

Anyone knows how much is gonna be the GX-30?

Posted by: RKFChan

I dont think i will be.....i dont like the look of it that much......maybe if they didnt curve it

Posted by: f2003

good functions, but disappointing style.

Posted by: tiger33

yep

excellent featureset but what happened to the styling of the phone!

they are gonna have to sell this phone on features alone because on looks it doesnt have a chance!

what a shame - man i'm dissappointed.

do know about u guys but i dont think we need a 1mega pixel camera on a mobile phone - just think of the size of the images and how the hell are we gonna email them across from the phone when GPRS is still relatively slow.

but i like the SD slot idea.

personally i think they should have traded the 1mega camera for a camera a little bit better than the GX20 (that was a good cam phone) and then worked more on the styling.

Posted by: AMD1600

For me, I definately will go for that but i gotta sell it away my GX-22s 1st!

I'll go more on the functions. The design not bad looking IMO. Dunno what colours for the kyeypad lightings. GX-22s sucks is using like Nokia 8210 fade light green colours.

Anyone knows the pricing? Well, maybe I'll wait till SmartFone version or "S" version that support Simipified Chinese & English Inputs.

I think at least gonna wait 3 months till it get to Singapore.

You don't send the hi-res pics anywhere.
You put them on the SD card, and print them out at home, or you can take them to those new photo booths for instant good quality 4x6 snaps.

would prefer to use my digi cam mate (got a pentax optio S - so cant complain)

cameras on mobiles are good for a quick pic sending via mms or caller ID nothign else man

why are manufacturers trying to do this to mobile phones - its not necessary

o well

if they can keep the size small and icnlude a 1mega or 2mega pixel camera then its all good.

What's the Screen for GX-30?

Internel & External?
CGS & TFT/STN?

Internal screen size? 2.4inch?

Posted by: Silom

When is this phone going to be relased? I am going back to Bangkok on Feb. 15. I was wanting to take a v600 back with me but I am tired of waiting. I am seriously considering buying a Sharp GX 20 to take back with me but if the GX 30 is going to be released very soon I might wait. Also, what is the difference between the GX 20 and GX 22?

Posted by: AMD1600

Just read the manual in PDF mode. Its says only 2 Mbs for internal storage. OMG!

So how to store MP3? By storing it on the SD card directly via the SD card reader on the Computer.

What's the max size of the GX-30 can use/read? 256/512Mb?

Posted by: t_yosuke817

for thoes complaining about the features (ie no point having megapixel cam etc) and ifu dont like it... then simply dont get it!!

for me i would love to have this phone, although i can see the point made about how a megapixel foto is too large to be sent over gprs... so what?? still not gonna stop me...

and for thoes wondering about the release date... i wouldnt get your hopes up too high... i mean remember gx10?? it took almost a year after gx10 was released for the gx20/22 to be released... so im guessing it will be furthur 6 or more months for the gx30 to be released... i mean why would vodafone start selling gx30 when gx20 is doing a good job at selling now?? might as well wait for the "popularity" of gx20 to go down before the gx30 becomes available on the market.. its a marketing th ing... but then that is just my personal opinion... i could be wrong in everyway... who knows...

The GX30 will be out in March. I see your point, but a company is allowed to have more than one popular product on the market.

Posted by: t_yosuke817

where did u get the infromation that it will be available in march?? can you tell me the exact address that you get this information from?

thanks

I got the info from some Vodafone people I know. This date relates to the UK launch. If you go to the what mobile forum, there are a few people there that can be more exact.

yes, i can confirm that it will be released in that time frame... as i have sources @ smartone in HK that can confirm it... smartone is really pushing for that time frame, but possible delay could push it back to Aug....

Posted by: sonyericssonfan

IT ALSO GOT BLUETOOTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I AM SAVING ALL MY MONEY ON THIS FXXXING PHONE

Here is the japanese PDC model (J-SH53) that it's based on:

+ It's quadband too!!!

Posted by: t_yosuke817

March you say? hmm thats soon... but i think i will wait for the smartone version to come out... i dont particularly like the user interface of the vodafone... its rather ugly... but then if i wait for smartone i could be waiting till august??

i cant decide... not that either version is out yet...

I think phonescoop have it wrong on this one.
The manual clearly says GSM 900/1800/1900 on one of the first pages.

Posted by: f2003

i very very doubt that the gx30 will be out in March. THey would not make the life span of the gx20 so short. Only people who would do that are Nokia, who keeps repackaging the same phones over and over again.

Posted by: t_yosuke817

yaaaay!! (*'u')V
some one who agrees with my opinion!!

Yes I saw that too but it's definitely quad band becuase the FCC approval tests include GSM 850. The manual, which seems preliminary must be wrong. Also, the Sharp model description as provided to the FCC also states that it is quad band.

Posted by: Blazers4ever

Since this phone has a SD card slot, we should be able to install apps/games without WAP correct?

Posted by: AMD1600

Saw the price of the GX-30 will be around 599 euros? WOW! That gonna SGD$1270+! So Exp!!! I think gotta wait see weather Smartone comes out with a "GX-32s" or something like that.

Posted by: hocky

Where did you see the price for the gx-30? Can pass me the site? Wanna take a look too, hehe.

Posted by: hocky

Heh, nvm, i found the article. It's from mobile-review right? I've read from a hk forum that the GX-32 will be out in the second half of 2004 and its retail price will be 57XX w/o contract. Man, that works out to abt the same pricing as the GX-30. Gotta start saving now.....

Posted by: Ferrarisimo

Just curious. What would the difference between your proposed "GX-32" and the GX30 be? Different markets?

The GX-30 is customized for Vodafone, including menus and options like "Vodafone Live!", and of course Vodafone branding.

Posted by: Ferrarisimo

Would I still be able to drop a TMO Sim card into a GX-30 and get full functionality after changing the WAP and GPRS settings?

Posted by: f2003

and the GX32 will have asian langauges support..and of course..a better firware to optimise the screen

$57XX Thats enough to get a P900....i dont think its worth that much

It does seem quite pricy but some people are more sold on camara / screen (me) rather than pda / smartphone functions. I am dying to get this phone although I only had my GX-22 for three months or so?

Posted by: AMD1600

Hey, I got the same sentiments too.

I rather get a high-end camera phone than the PDA phone.

Posted by: t_yosuke817

i dont know if it will be worth the wait to get the gx32... i want the asian language support... but gx30 will have vodafone live to download gx30 games... hmmmm

The latest info is that the GX30 will be on sale on March 12th. You can buy it in the summer if you want though!

Just got the GX32, very cool. I like it better than my previous GX. Screen looks better, I know its the same, however.... Love the camera, printed out a pix, not bad and love having a SD card slot. All in all. Way cool. Now if I could just find a car charger, as the GX20 and GX32 use (of course) different plugs...

Posted by: scizzors

Where can we see the Sharp gx32 manual, id like to compare the manuals side by side with thx gx30
anyone know?>?

Is there a file size limit to the movies you can play? also does BT fully work (phone to pc)? as on my GX30, BT is only to a headset & movie file size is <400kb

Both manuals are identical.

However SmartTone include a colorful GX32 User manual (easy reference type) to complement the GX30 manual.
