I have an 8290 witch i bought from E-bay and didn't notice until i put my SIM into it that it is SIM locked to Iowa Wireless.

I was wondering if i change the circut board with another one would it still be SIM locked to Iowa or Locked to witch ever Service Provider it had. Or will it bomb in my face?

Sidenote: To fix the Power Button on a 8290 (different) do i have to send it to Nokia or will a Voicestream Tech would be able to fix it and how much do you think?

Power Button broke by I think when it fell or when i tryed to put back the aftermarket Faceplate. The actaul Power button dissapeared, the one that is connected to the Phone (not the one on the Faceplate) and im afraid to turn it off or take uot my SIM because then i won't be able to power up.

Heh, if your phone was as messed up as mine is, you could just use your 9 key to turn the phone on/off.

I dunno about your power button problem...
But logically a board switch should fix the problem (I would think so)...

Here's the question:
How will you be obtaining a new board?...
Wouldn't you have to spend alot of money for it?...

I would suggest just getting the 8290 unlocked, then problem solved...

I had a 8290 with an 8890 Mod, which I sold to my friend, he gave it back to me saying that the end button would turn it on and off. I opened it up, grabbed an Air Can (one of those ones that are freon based and get really cold) and blew all the lint and dust out, then I put it together really carefully making sure to not tighten the screws too tight. It worked! Yeh!

Hope this helps

What are you going to do with the old board? I've got an 8290 hat some of the keys don't work on.... PM if you want to sell it.

I will but the Power button doesn't exist on that board anymore. Witch means you wount be able to turn it on or off.

Unless your a tech. person and your going to perform mirracals.

My previous 8290 had a broken power switch also. The switch broke completely off the main board. I managed to fix it myself, but it was a PITA. The reason is because parts are way too hard to find for this model, so I had to get creative and modify a power swich from a different phone... Thankfully it worked.
Now that I have a different 8290, I'm going to be extremely carefull not to break this power switch on my new one.
