Oh also The Siemens m55 can play polyphonic Ringtones but how many chords can it play? And can the faceplate or keypad be changed on this phone?

yes it can play animated graphics (gif files), a little slow, but it can.
And about that site, you can put the images on your phone.sound too, color themes..

Sorry can't answer all your questions just cuz i don't have a 3310 or a c62.

however.. yes.. you can choose a voice recording as a ringtone
and yes you can use an aftermarket datacable to do all the stuff u need to for the m55. I've used it to unlock, upgrade firmware, sync w/ outlook and transfer pics, java games and ringtones to the fone.

You seem to have a 3310 as well as an M55. Can u answer my question relating to the loudness of these?

you can't use recordings as a ringtone, i've tried.

and yes, mario does really work but it's not for hardcore gamers. it's really easy and it graphics are about as good as "Super Mario Land" for the original Gameboy, just with colour.

I found a few different faceplates on eBay. They require a screwdriver so it's not something you quickly change.

Nevermind, I found a thread in club siemens. I'll just copy and paste what someone posted. Sorry I can't remember who.

1. Convert from mp3 --> wav:
mpg123 -w calif.wav Calif.mp3
2. (optional) Edit with sound editor (say, mhwaveedit-1.1.6 from freshmeat.net) to make it shorter
3. Convert into apropriate wav format:
sox calif_orig_short.wav -i -r 16000 -c 1 calif_mobile.wav
test it with 'play'.

This is done with sox.

Hi, I've been trying to use "sox" to convert my wav files so they'll work on my Siemens M55. The only problem is, with that command you're posting, with the -i, it doesn't work. It says, unrecognized parameter "-i" ... is anyone else getting this error?

Answering my own question just in case anyone else was having the same problem:

I'm using Cool Edit 2000 to set the bitrate to 4, and to save that in IMA ADPCM.

Secondly, I'm using Fairstars Audio Converter to set the frequency and mono sound settings. Doing this I'm able to hear the "hi-quality" wav files on my Siemens M55..

If someone has an easier way let me know

hmm i c, I just use winamp to covert from mp3 to wav, then use sox using the command i posted earlier, and it works fine. I find it's quite simple.

I am getting the M55 this week, and need to know some things.
1) I have an old SIM, from about 1998. It has a capacity of 100 places for phone numbers. Should I switch to the newer Sim? I kinda don't want to change my number. What are the benefits?
2) What firmware is good to use for text msg'ing?

Well I have the old sim on my M55 and its fine...because I dont have more than 100 phonebook entries and for text messaging you want firmware version 10 rather than the fw 9 that comes with the phone.. T9 text messaging is faster with fw10.

yes, i believe there is. i think the fido kiosks/stores sell them. they go for around $25.

mike, if you can, it might be a good idea to edit your first post every time you do an update. As it stands, people looking at the thread for the first time don't realise you've been adding links for four pages.

Anyway, here's some HoFo threads on the M55 that I found useful (searching for M55 alone doesn't work)

M55 How To:

check if your phone is unlocked - even without a SIM

assign a phone number to a number key

record a conversation

jump around your phonebook

remove the aircraft check

reprogram the left soft key

remove the startup/shutdown animation

What's a good way to downsample to 4bit? CoolEdit seems to jarble anything under 8 bits

Also what ADPCM compression ratio should I use?

If using windows, mark to view secret files. Then connect your phone and you will see some hidden folders there.

u can dl them off many different sites listed at the beginning of this thread.. they are something.COL type and when u have Siemens data suite installed.. u just plug in the fone and a mobile icon should appear in your "My Computer" lists like a removable drive and then just copy the .COL file into schemes.

You just upload a *.mid file on the web: ex: www.name.com/song.mid and write the exact address in you phone wap browser, and you can download it. You can download any type of file this way!

Can anyone help me with my M55 and datacable? When I use the unlock program, I get a BAD CRC. I have the serial datacable that I purchased off ebay and a Fido branded M55.

I also cannot upload ringtones/images to my phone as Siemens Data Suite detects my phone but as soon as I try to do anything, it doens't detect the phone anymore.

Okay man, stay cool! First convent about 1 min of an mp3 song in to .wav format! Be careful to save it with the following details:

Frequency 16000
Mode Mono

See the free space before converting! I have 1/76 mb free, and I stored about 2 min of a song! It’s great!!

2. well i bought my first cable from my provider, however it was usb, so i could not unlock my phone, but i could do everything else (data exchange), but in order to unlock my phone i had to use a serial cable which i did pick up off ebay (and may i add it was MUCH cheaper than the USB one i bought from fido), so i suggest finding one on ebay.

Is there any way to get any information on to the siemens m56 with out the cable. I have AT&T wireless service providerany help or ringtones, games, wallpapers, or anything that is possible to put on the phone again I have no data cable or no device that will allow me to send it wireless like an irda device.

it is possible, by downloading them directly from the internet browser (just enter the url for the file into the browser and it will dl it), but u may have to pay data transfer costs.. i dont use at&t so i dont kno their prices for that sorta stuff.. might wanna check it out first, cuz a data cable might be cheaper
