GX22: is this rumour true???

Hi!

Some people say that the GX22 can't play the GX20 Java games. This should be because of different runtime lib. But could this be true? I always thought they are the samephones (same hardware) with different software? But what would be the sense to make the GX22 unable to play GX20 Java games?

Maybe it's all not true...

Has anybody tried the www.Gameloft.com games for the GX20 on your GX22?

Which games work - which don't?

Oliver

The Java is portable in our dream...
The phones nowdays implements CLDC 1.0 (Connected Limited Device Configuration) and MIDP 1.0 (Mobile Information Device Profile) ot top of CLDC. The Configuration (CLDC) categorize devices by hardware, and Profile (MIDP) categorize by market segment (cell phone).
Both have minimal requirement.
The Nokia 3410 and the Sharp GX-22 are both CLDC1.0-MIDP1.0 devices. The difference is the extension. Most manufacturer have its own extension that allow to do something, that out of the scope of the Profile. The Sharp have no such extension, but Vodafone (and I suppose SmarTone) have.

For example the sound support isn't a recommendation in the Profile (just a simple beep), so any game with sound need to use special manufacturer/provider extension.
So if you see a game with sound on other than your phone, that definetly won't run on your device.

This is true for MIDP 1.0, the upcoming devices will support MIDP 2.0, that must support sound and full screen mode, but portable game remains a dream, because each device have its own properties, limitations, behaviors, bugs...

The GX-20 has the non-standard Java VSCL library in it but the GX22 has Java CJSP. They have the same functionality (virtually) but different function names. VSCL is Vodafone specific. Both add multimedia extensions to MIDP 1.0. It's easy for a developer to do a port between the two but software for the GX-20 that uses VSCL will not run on the GX-22 and visa versa.

Thanx very much for the info!

I just wrote to gameloft, in order to convince them to port the games for the GX22!

Of course it is easy if you have the neccessary stuff.
I spent a lot of time to find CJSP classes, manual, jad creation guide, emulator, but no success.
Do you know where can I find this stuff, or can you send me?
Do you know about the Jave extension of other GX-2x devices?

Yep me too. Does anyone have the CJSP specs? Or any hints where to get any info?

I think we should talk with the developers from G-MODE because they have games that work perfectly (with sound light and vibration) for GX 30 and GX20-22

Ihave on my GX30 clay-shooter from g-mode and works perfectly!!!!
