Kyocera Rave KE433 - Faceplate

Simple question - Anyone taken off and put on a new faceplate for the Rave? I have a faceplate in the mail and I was wondering if its a *****/should i try it myself or let a place do it?

I did it to my girlfriends 2255 and the people on the other end cant hear her. There were some loose pieces and I had no idea which way they went so i screwed it up. There anything like that to watch for with the Rave? Thanx

(Sorry for all the questions but its better to ask too much than too little)

I think you need a special tool to get the faceplate off. You need to take the cover where the battery is off, and there are these screw looking things where you need to use the tool at. I havn't tried it because I dont know where to get the tool at. Will it come with a faceplate if you buy one off vm.com or kyocera.com?

You need a Torx #6 Screwdriver for those screws. I am more worried about small pieces on the inside of the phone and wondering if anyone knows what its like. I love the nokia cause u can just pop the faceplate off and its still "one" piece. That screwdriver is available at every wireless shop on the net as far as ive seen. Im sure some stores would have them.

If you decide to try it, can u let me know what to expect? Just make sure u know where everything came from and which way it faced. (Just speaking from experience)

The faceplate is made like some Nokias - it just comes off, no tools needed. The Rave in particular comes off from the bottom, and it's quite easy. Take a look at the manual. Even if you did need a T6 screw driver, wouldn't be too hard. I've taken apart so many Nokias so many times I've got it down to a tee. Of course, one time I forgot the microphone. That was a problem

But anyway, yep, the Rave faceplate will be simple to take off. JUST the faceplate comes off; the clear cover over the LCD stays on. I actually took that off though, to take off dust that got under there.

I know there is a "insert"/faceplate on the top that comes off easily but I guess i should have made it clear. The flaceplate im ordering has that "insert" but also a faceplate that replaces that grey plastic. I was just wondering if anyone had gone inside there. I went inside on the 2255 and I didnt know what to expect and it was a nightmare cause i had no way of knowing which way things. I just dont want it to repeat itself. I guess i will just try to be careful when i pull it off. Would you guys be interested if i took a couple pictures of the inside IF i decide to take it apart? I might just use the insert cause it will still look good. Have to wait and see i guess.

I have dust and stuff under my screen I cant get to. How can you take off the grey metallic thing, or does that come off when you use the screwdriver. What do you do at the bottom to take it off? I ordered the screwdriver and I should get it soon and I'll try opening it up.

On my rave i just snapped those little plastic tabs off of the screen cover so i was able to get the dust out- . I've seen clear face plates formetro

This is the faceplate i purchased and will be here tommorow or the next day... The Faceplate

(Dont laugh at the color.. its for my gf) But you can see the faceplate is more than just the insert and i was trying to decide if to put it all on it or just the insert and the back. Anyone taken the part BELOW the keys off (as far as the faceplate is concerned) I cant find anyone that has taken it off and thats amazing to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe you could ask the seller a question on how to install it. Also ask him if instructions come with the faceplate.

That's an awesome deal

my only concern would be the insert faceplate going in to the aftermarket body... also, is the original body made of metal? (the front part, not the back part that the battery compartment part)

thanks

Its made of plastic the entire thing.. (Pretty sure). I asked him and he said he had no instructions for the faceplate. But it has to have the insert or there is no way to get the keys in the faceplate. I think i must JUST use the insert unless i am confident i can do the entire piece without screwing up the phone. Did your cover come with instructions??

I already got a T6 and i got my cover for $4 but price wasnt an issue.

I'm just gonna hold the phone horizontal and once i take the screws out open it up slowly and see if there is anything inside that may come out or become loose. I dont think anything should happen if you replace it. I'm going to get my moeny order today and i should have the plate in about a week. If I get it before you open it up I'll tell you what its like in there.

Yeah i think it would have been nice if an insert faceplate of thesame color came with it ... Also , is there a hole for the flashlight ?

Posted by: lilfl9p

my faceplate came. It has a little new cover for the flashlight plus the hole in the faceplate and the faceplate does have the seperable insert piece. It fit great and I just put the insert in place of the old one. I am not sure if i will put the rest of it on. Not sure if its all that worth it. I might clamp the thing together .. unscrew it.. release the clamp and then slowly pull it off (there are no tabs holding it on i didnt see).. Then i will replace it. Not sure if ill get around to it. I was VERY pleased with my cover i got. .the link is in a post above if u want to look at his other auctions and find one for yourself. Let me know if u decide to be the brave one and open it up.
