X70 or Motorola V600

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Ok i have totally killed my GD87 by cracking the screen

I've always been happy with Panasonic so went to look at the new X70 which looks wicked. I also saw the new V600 Motorola, what would you buy and why? both look very cool

Cheers

Paul

Sounds like you need a phone asap. The V600 is in short supply for at least a few more weeks, so unless you want to pay a hefty premium just for the latest "it" phone and are willing to wait, I'd go with the x70.

Posted by: pgtips

yeah ...need one soon, i'm stuck with some old nokia

Are there any issues with the X70?

cammera bites from what i hear and no big improvements over teh gx8x series, just smaller and polyphnic ringtones. Personally id hold out for the v600 and see if you dont like it there a alot of people that would buy it from you

Posted by: pgtips

I don't want to get one then sell it straight away as i'd have to wait another year to get a free upgrade

Posted by: iliksprite

just saying you could try out the v600 and if you really like th panasonic you could sell the v600 and have more then enough for a x70

ok fella

With the latest firmware, pics are twice as big (hey better than nothing) and the blue tint thing seems to be much better

Pros over Gx8x
Better Menu structure
Bluetooth support
SyncML
More games (unless you have Infusio)
Better configurability and usability
Volume is better (but could still go as much again)

Cons
Bat life sux (but I leave BT on all the time)
Keypad navigation is more difficult, especially the nav key because it is completely flat.

so lost rebel....you'd have the X70?

Lots of people are telling me the V600 is far better. my only concern is i really like Panasonic phones.....always been reliable.

-Good RF
-Fast menu response
X70 cons:
-Mediocre camera
-Difficult keypad navigation

Well, don't know really much about V600 'cause I haven't used or tested it but apparently, a summary of what I've heard and read:
V600 pros:
-Very good screen (made by Sharp)
-large memory (a total of 5.4 MB)
-BT enabled
-Nice 24 chord polyphonic rings (loud & clear)
-MP3 & WAV (to use as ringtones)
-cool appearance
-VGA camera
-Video receiving
V600 cons:
-very heavy (116 gramms, almost as 6600, due to chromium and aluminum covers)
-difficult menu structure
-slow software response
-no IrDA
The choice is yours!

If I were you, I'd get the X70, try it, and if I didn't like it, I'd sell it to get the V600 The V600 is cheaper than X70, isn't it?

Posted by: pgtips

not sure which is cheaper been playing with my mates V600 which he bought today.....very good, heavy but not yet had chance to play with the X70.

X70 probably looks better and is a LOT lighter.

but the camera on the V600 is sooooooo cool as is the bluetooth.

Also the V600 doesn't have Infared so not sure how to get MP3's on it.

I'm leaning towards to the X70 but i just want to make sure i get the best

In mobile phones is in the eyes of the beholder. Things important to you. I use the IrDA and BT functions in my x70 almost daily. Rarely use the camera (novelty went away with GD87). Although I will use it more often now that the picture quality is much better and the picture when transfered is usable.
Another feature I use daily is Email. My regular personal POP3 email account. I do not get charged for MMS messaging and I already have unlimited GPRS on my account. Besides, keeps my mobile, PC and PDA in better sync. My Palm Zire does not have BT so getting it on the internet can only be done by cable or by IR modem through my phone making it a very important feature.
Ergo, at the end of the day, X70 was the best phone for me.

I'd have to agree, your phone is all about what you look for, not for what others do.

Anyways I do have a question, that doubled camera resolution... is it actually doubled or is it just the same number of pixels stretched out?

Posted by: lost_rebel

The camera module is about 4 times the resolution that you see on the screen. The 2x is real resolution but you lose the zoom capability. Not sure why. Not a digi cam expert.

A lot of people have beef w/ the X70 on poor lighting conditions such as blue lines all over the screen. But the phone has many modes of capture. I use the Twilight mode and it works pretty good in dark conditions. There's also the flash that works great as well. I would definately get the X70, I love that phone right now. The RF on it is superior as well !

Posted by: lost_rebel

You are very forgiving, the camera is worse than the one in GD87. Twilight mode is not very effective. The flash only helps at extremelly close range....But heck, if a digital camera was my primary interest in a phone, I would not have bought the x70.
BTW- Firmware for x70 is up to A30 as far as I know

yea.. i agree.. twilight mode makes the entire picture yellowish in color and the blue dots are still there and the flash... i think it works better as a flash light (yes i really did use it as a flash light before!) other than the camera, i'm pretty happy with the phone though.

Funny, I have done the same to light up my front door when I forget to turn the porch light on.
