X70 works with FREE SyncML server

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

www.mobical.net has free syncml service. It works with the X70 although it does not list this phone in the supported mobiles.

Some notes about this:
1. use http://www.mobical.net/cgi-bin/beta instead of the server listed.

2. The first time I sync'd, it deleted all of my contacts in the mobile pb. I suggest making a backup first. Subsequent Syncs worked fine

3. The calendar function does not transfer the notes field, but it is better than nothing, hopefully this will be fixed in the future.

4. Be familiar with setting up WAP or MMS manually. You will need to enter the transport settings manually (again). There are plenty of posts here on HOFO for doing this.

I was successful using both Tmobile USA (wap and internet3 APNs) and Cingular GPRS. I also setup a CSD transport using Earthlink and it works that way too

For what phone you used adjustments?
At me it is impossible to synchronize

Posted by: lost_rebel

From my x70.
I assume that you registered for an account on Mobical and not only setup the servers but the transport as well?

In my X70 server list settings, i only can input an IP and no URL .... Can you tell us how you entered that information in the phone ? I use A17 firmware....

You know, I really wanted to avoid that as it is long and detailed and has been covered about 10 ways to the highway in other postings for setting up MMS and WAP for both Gx8x and X70/88...I just knew that most people can not make this connection and should have bit the bullet when I made the first posting! So Here goes:

Once in the Synchronize menu
highlight "Sync Schedule"
hit left soft key "Edit"
highlight which ever you wish to setup
Hit "Menu", select "edit"
In this menu:
Profile Name "Mobical" <note> it does not matter, it is just a tag
Server Name "www.mobical.net/cgi-bin/beta"
Server Database "./Calendar"
Server User ID <your user ID on Mobical>
Server User Password <your user password on Mobical>

When all of this are complete, hit the right softkey <go back>
Select you new profile name and hit the "menu" key
Select "Set"
When all of this are complete, hit the right softkey <go back>

highlight "Sync Contacts"
hit left soft key "Edit"
highlight which ever you wish to setup
Hit "Menu", select "edit"
In this menu:
Profile Name "Mobical" <note> it does not matter, it is just a tag
Server Name "www.mobical.net/cgi-bin/beta"
Server Database "./Contacts"
Server User ID <your user ID on Mobical>
Server User Password <your user password on Mobical>

When all of this are complete, hit the right softkey <go back>
Select you new profile name and hit the "menu" key
Select "Set"
When all of this are complete, hit the right softkey <go back>

Highlight "Server List"
Hit "edit"
highlight which ever you wish to setup
Hit "Menu", select "edit"
In this menu:
Profile Name "T-mobile" <note> it does not matter, it is just a tag
Gateway IP <This is the IP address to the DNS that you are using>
Select Bearer Type
Highlight which ever transport you are using <note- I am only going to cover setting up GPRS for Tmobile USA, you should be able to figure out what info you need to setup a CSD connection on your own, if not-Too bad>
Hit Menu, then select "edit"
In this menu:
AccessPointName "wap.voicestream.com"
User ID <blank>
User Pass <blank>
Authentication "None"
When all of this are complete, hit the right softkey <go back>
Select your new bearer type and hit the "menu" key
Select "Set"

When that is done, hit the right softkey <go back>
Select your new profile name and hit the "menu" key
Select "Set"

You should be All done, good luck

OK, since I have no insight into what is each software release, I assume that they all behave the same. I do not have A17, if it is something related to the firmware, you are on your own.

Which model of phone You put in personal adjustments? In fact X70 is not present in a choice.

Posted by: lost_rebel

Ohh, on the mobical side, I am sorry, it is not clear what you are asking. I do not remember, I think the Nokia 3650. Should it make a difference? There is no way to change it after you sign on. I think that is simply for instructions for that mobile, and you can select different ones from a pull down. Also, it was not mentioned in the x70 thread on the mobical forums.

Hey lost rebel,

Got it set up using your instructions but it still won't work, i get the following error: Connection failed . My gprs is set up and functional (i use it to WAP and access my POP3 account). I am guessing that the DNS entry i am using is not correct but at the same time, i use that DNS for my other GPRS settings....

DNS entry used: 204.092.015.211 (FIdo DNS).

Anyways, i'll keep on trying. Thanks for your help.

Max

You know you still have to setup your GPRS connection (APN info)in the syncml section. It does not import it from the wap menu. This is a common mistake in setting up x70 and gd87. And something different from most other phones.

OK, let me check that out. Thanx again.

Posted by: lost_rebel

Got to say, that this is pretty cool. Now I got my x70 and Palm Zire sync'd together

Thanx for your help Lost Rebel. I finally got it set up properly and was able to sync this afternoon... Now if i could do the same on my Powerbook in an efficient way using Bluetooth and Ical (not with their crippled implementation...), that would be great... Oh well, i guess i should have gonne for that SE T616 everybody has !
