My Slider

I recently purchased a Virgin Mobile Slider on Ebay. I figured since it was a CDMA phone, that I would be able to use it here in my service area. I took the phone to my provider, and they said that the phone could not be hooked up to their system. I went as far as buying the unlock procedure for the phone off of Ebay. The unlock procedure did work, but I found out that that was not the cure.

I tried the procedure to get it to work on Verizon, only to find out that there is no "WEB" access out here. The only features available here in the Mariana Islands are Digital Service and Text capabilities.

So, now I feel like I have a "useless" Kyocera Slider. I really want the phone, it looks real cool and no one else has one here.

Is there anyone that can help me, and maybe help me get my VM Slider to work on the network out here? If you know some one, could you pursuade them to look at my post and help me out?

I'd like to personally thank netdata for helping me out with some of the programming, but unfortunately, it didn't work.

Help...anyone?

so your saying that you couldn't get the phone activated just because there is no web service?

No, that's not what I meant. The procedure to get the phone hooked up with Verizon cannot be done out here since it requires (I'm just assuming) me to log on to the net with the phone. I assume that because the following was listed as the procedure to get the phone hooked up on Verizon:

Verizon needs it to be 000000 so that you can do Over The Air programming and PRL update. Remember to use 000000 and not 868666 as the SVC code next time you go back into this programming screen.

(NAM2 is used by Verizon, might need to enter the following info for NAM1 also):

NAM2 Info [OK]
MIN [OK]
[BACK 10 times to delete] 0000000658 --> 10-digits phone num [OK]
check MDN, should be the same
Home SID [OK]
find out your home SID from http://www.bridog.net/cellular/sid.txt
drop the leading 0's, ie 00030 -> 30
Extra NAM Info [OK]
CDMA NAM Info [OK]
Home SID/NID [OK]
enter in the same SID as above for both SID and NID

exit programming screen, press hang up

now dial *22801 option 1 to activate with verizon, it'll also update the PRL

now verify your PRL
##786 [TALK]
Verizon's PRL should show 42xxx, 50xxx, or 52xxx
Sprint PRL is 10xxx

My phone won't even recognize a network! When I turn it on, the phone says that it is searching.

I hope I cleared that up for you.

Thanks

Oh yeah, if I can't use this phone, then I'll be more than happy to either trade this phone for another or sell it for a REAL good price. It really sucks that I can't use it though!

Can anyone help?

No, nothing in the procedure requires that the phone make any Internet connection... did you go through every step of the instructions? My first guess is you've got the wrong SID on the phone and it's hunting for the wrong SID when you turn it on. I'd suggest grabbing a firend's Verizon phone and checking the SID nmber on that one to make sure you used the right one.

Also I don't think you mentioned what you did to change the ESN of the Slider over to your Verizon account. Did you do that online?

Look at it this way..... I can't even dial 911.

Anyway, how do I go about changing the ESN? I logged on to Verizonwireless.com and found nothing for the Mariana Islands.

I am currently using another service provider, not Verizon. My current phone has the SID listed as 01855 and even when I put that on the Slider, it won't recognize a nework...just keeps searching!

I'll run through that Verizon process again to see where I went wrong.

Thanks

For most Verizon users stateside you can register your accounton their web site, and when you want to switch a phone to your account you can select a phone number, then input the ESN number for another phone and the new phone will be hooked to your account after an over-the-air programming execution. In other words, you can switch phones without the involvement of Verizon customer service people.

If you aren't on Verizon you'd probably have to enlist the help of your provider. If they've already said they won't help you may be out of luck.
