I've updated the KWS Maker project for all you Kyocera users. Here is the jist of the readme:
The rpn2kws program will take output generated by the rpntone program that converts midi to arbitrary text format. I've included a rpntone.ini file that has a "KWS" format defined for use with rpn2kws. Simply cut and paste the output from rpntone into a text file, and open it in rpn2kws. You can specify the tempo to use for the ring to be generated, as well as whether you want to insert short pauses for a "stacato" effect. You can also specify how long those short pauses are in milliseconds.
The rtttl2kws program operates pretty much the same way, it will take rtttl format files for Nokia phones and convert it to a .kws file for use with Kyocera Phone Desktop. The only difference is that the tempo is only displayed here, and cannot be changed within the program. It just displays the tempo read from the file.
Kyocera phones that support .kws files (2235/55, 3035), only have 3 octaves, so if a ringtone you are trying to convert has notes in the last (highest) octave, those tones will result in rests (silence). This means for rtttl tones, any note in octave 8 will be silent. I tested this quite a bit, and any note over the g in 3rd octave results in the phone playing NO sound. The same is true for rpn conversions, any note above octave 3 results in no sound.
You can find the rpntone program, for converting midi files, in the Sprintusers group in yahoo groups, or search google for "rpntone".

Drev,
I took a look on the recommended site for the Java apps that are required, and could find neither. Any ideas as to where I can get these files/downloads so I can run this app?
Thanks!

were you looking for rpntone? well, glad you found whatever you were looking for. Let me know how the program works out for you. I haven't gotten much feedback, as you can see

Ive not seen / heard of rpntone, but you can convert midi into rtttl using our software if thats of any use.
The midi to rtttl part of the software doesnt have any trial limitations on it so you can use the rtttl how you like then, if you can get the java to work for you, I guess you can get free ringtones.
If not, our software also exports to kws format - but the trial will only let you export Dallas
