I surfed around ebay today and found out that S40 is very cheap and no one bid on those locked phone....

I was in my local Cingular corporate store recently and they told me that the S40 wasn't selling so well. I don't know - doesn't seem like that popular of a phone :/

i think it's not S40, but siemens. Siemens doesn't have much of the market share anyways. People just like Nokia, Moto or Sony-E the most and now samsung is the 4th player(it was simens b4).

The S40 has never been a big seller. Like joy said, people prefer to buy "names" they know. The lack of Chinese makes it even less popular in places like Hong Kong.

Siemens is a big player in Europe !

Just S40 (Bosch originally) is not goo model software wise. And it arrived to North America too late. i have this phone from January 2001 and I think the phone is ok.

perhaps you would all agree to even just a small extent that the s40 (and the other siemens phones - though i'm aware it was originally a bosch) are of good quality. given that and the relatively small market share they have in asia and north america, it's not such a bad thing either.

believe me, i STILL get stopped every now and then and get complimented on my s40 and who wouldn't want that right? siemens' having a small chunk of the mobile phone market spells uniqueness and standing out for you and me, and not just be another one of those motorola- or nokia-toting folks whose phones you wouldn't even bother giving a second look because you're just so sick and tired of seeing them all over the place.

i work in manhattan - do you guys have any idea how many times i see a motorola flip-phone in one day? geezuz... just enough to drive me nuts. it's absolutely sickening. and that's just the mot and not counting the nokias and the propreitary samsungs and lg's that sprint and verizon churn out. what's even amazing is how gsm has never really caught on to the public - pcs still rules here and it's just mad. simply mad. *sigh*....

i also noticed the motos in NYC when i was at the home entertainment show 2002 at the hilton. all along the floors the show reserved, everyone would step outside of the demo room, call up whoever, and brag or praise about the demo they just experienced or call up their wives to tell them "i'll be back home soon". LOL

uniqueness rocks! that's why when i get my nokia, i always think of soupin it up mad!

hahaha! it's funny that you should mention that. they DO have this habit of calling WHOEVER from their cellphone to say "i'm on my way home", "i'm about to enter the tunnel....i might lose you", etc.

argh.

I don't know...I think siemen is pretty good in either customer
service and quality of the phone. I have positive experience with
the firmware upgrade with siemen last summer, they did the
upgrade for free in 4 hours.

The phone looks way better than nokia, no bias, the chrome
faceplate already won any model on the market (not to mention
the old school 8860, 8890) I used is more than 1.5 years now
and I still no complain or plan to change to another phone, but
currently waiting for the Sony Ericsson P800 in the fall.
