I`m interested in the motorola V60c (Bell mobility network) that i`m going to use as a main phone (no more landline for me). I like it because it is small. Is this a good phone? Does anyone had any problems with it? Or should I choose another brand?

Hey Groovy, if you want a new phone definetely go with an Ericsson T39m or if you can afford it, an Ericsson T68/T68i. I can guarantee these are the best phones on the market without paying an arm and a leg for something like a Motorola v70 or a Nokia 8910 (which neither have a color screen like the Ericsson T68). If you have to choose something else, get a Motorola v60g, Siemens S40, or Samsung Q105. I would also recommend using Voicestream as your provider, seeing how they have the largest American GSM network. Definetely go with GSM as it is the universal standard, and Voicestream got the jump on the competition by starting the first network. At&t, Verizon, Cingular, and others are starting to get their GSM networks up, but none have the coverage of Voicestream. Hope that I cleared some things up for you.

I think you just clouded his vision...... [RANT] First off, he lives in CANADA, not the US, Voicestream is not even an option for him..... GSM is NOT the universal standard, it is merely the most widely used WORLDWIDE, but here in the US of A the majority of people use CDMA. GSM is the standard imposed by governments in Europe. Verizon is NOT starting to get their GSM network up (where do you get this stuff?) They are the largest carrier in the US and guess what? (what?) THEY USE CDMA AND HAVE NO PLANS TO CONVERT THEIR CDMA NETWORK TO GSM, WHY WOULD THEY!?!?! And if you even begin to compare Voicestream's coverage to Verizon's I will email you a backhand! Have you even looked at both carrier's coverage maps? [/RANT] grrrr....

*takes deep breath* Groovy, to answer at least part of your question, yes, the v60c is a great phone in terms of reception and it's small, sleek size.

The problems with that phone are these:
-Antenna is flimsy (especially when retracted) and can break off pretty easy. I don't know how bad a stubby antenna would do to the reception, but I know that in most places, I have seen it get full signal w/ no antenna

-Interface sucks (IMO) I just don't like it. Try it out and you'll see...

-the backlight is known to have a slight buzzing/humming noise and is not very bright, making it hard to see in the dark.

As always, the best thing to do is go to a store and try it out, play with it, see if you like it....
Now I am unfamiliar with Bell's service (I'm from the States) So I can't comment on that....

I hope that helped you, Groovy! and I hope that enlightened you a little, teaandsymphony.....(forgive me if I sounded pissy, but I speak only the truth!)

I'm sorry about the flaws that I put in the my prevous post groovy and Sirius. It was VERY early in the morning and I didn't notice that groovy lived in Canada, or that I had put Verizon as a GSM carrier. I still personally believe that GSM is the universal standard or will be one day. So if you live in the states, take my advice except the whole Verizon thing. Sorry about the inconvience all. Cheers!

Actually Joey,

In late 4Q02 or early 1Q03 Verizon will announce a SIM card based CDMA phones. The reason being that Vodaphone is a 45% shareholder in VZW. When ANY customer from Europe comes to the states, the roam on GSM. Customer that pay a $1.00/minute now goes to that foreign carrier. After the release, you will be able to take out your 3.5 volt sim card and use it in the new CDMA phones that will support it. What that means it $.45 of every dollar that is spent by Vodaphone customer roaming in the US will now stay "in the family" cause they roam on VZW. Note they also have in the works a CDMA/GSM handset with sim card capabilities.

Thanks,

Mike
