Audiovox 8900 - Having Problems After Phone Book Transfer

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: FocusOnMBM

My phonebook was transferred from an LG VX6000 -> My Audiovox 8900.

At first everything seemed fine, then I noticed some incoming calls once in a while seemed to not ring (it'd would still vibrate though) and on the call screen where it has the animated picture would just say "Loading Image...".

I've found if I edit the contact and say, change the group from Etc. -> Personal. That contact will now ring.

So tonight, I decided to start going through and changing them although now after I did 30 or so, when I go to the next contact and choose the Personal group the phone freezes.

If I go Menu -> 1 -> 3 to display a list of groups I get:

All (010)
Personal (051)
Business (000)
Etc. (3/4 95)

Choosing Etc. group says no entries (Although there are contacts in the Etc. group, probably at least 60)

And All (010) is obviously wrong, should be ~ 115

Anyone got any ideas?

Almost anything to do with groups now freezes the phone.

I can't change groups, or the phone freezes. I can't view b y groups or the phone freezes.

Is there any way toedit my phone book on the computer? I have too many contacts to just delete them all and re-do them all

Correction, umm... Phone isn't turning on at all anymore.

I pull the battery out because that's the only way to unfreeze it.

I plug the battery in, turn it on. Screen says Verizon Wireless and stops there.

Did you use the PC Sync program you found in another thread? Did you happen to read the ENTIRE thread before using it? You probably missed this post. I think you are SOL now. Try to exchange for another one...

Posted by: FocusOnMBM

Umm I didnt use any pc sync software. VERIZON did the phone book transfer. Not me.

Posted by: Waruwaru

That is pretty funny... (well, "ironic" kinda funny). They must be using the same software from Curitel or something... Heh. Since they screwed up, ask them to exchange it.

Posted by: FocusOnMBM

Well it was working for a couple of days..Like I said.. Whatever.

Dont tell me my phonebook is lost?

Posted by: Waruwaru

Yeah, mine was working for a little bit until I started to edit my address book (changin groups..etc).

Well, they could try to transfer addressbook onto another brand new 8900 again. But I am guessing that will just lock up the new phone. Plus, your phone is at a point where they can't even talk to it via the data connection port. Complain to the store... I think you are stuck with re-entering your data like I did. Hope you still have your old phone.

Verizon took my old phone!

I had over 150 phone numbers in there, that I DONT have anywhere else.

I dont even know what to do.

Only bet is to go in the store/call them and hope they still have your old phone. Good luck.

Is there any kind of documentation that I can get from somewhere/someone that Verizon shouldnt be transffering phonebooks using this software?

I cant believe Verizon is doing this if it is known to cause problems.

Posted by: FocusOnMBM

After the phone is on for about 10 minutes the display says:

fS_dir.c 02220

And then restarts again and goes to the Verizon screen.

Is this anything good/bad?

Probably not. I was speculating that they are using the same software. You are describing the exact thing that happened to my phone. Go into the store, and ask for an exchange. If they screw up another phone, then they will have an idea, or ask you to get a different phone.

Might be a problem with the software, but might also be a problem with software inside the phone.

If you backed up your phone with BitPim/GAGIN, then you can use this thread to recover your phone book, and enter them manually...

EDIT: Just to clarify, I did not ask Verizon to transfer the phone book for me, I used PC Sync software.

I went to Verizon this morning and got a replacement.

I asked them what software they used, they told me PC Sync.

The store is no longer using PC Sync software with the 8900 series after I told them what I read on there. The store actually came to HoFo this morning and checked.

The store said they will call Verizon HQ up and let them know.

They gave me $100 for my headaches. (Which still isn't justifiable.)

I'd pay $100 to get my phone numbers back, I'd pay $200.

I guess they don't have your old phones anymore? I am amazed that they got rid of your old phone so fast. If you can get your old phone back, there might be ways to pull the numbers out of it with a data cable.

The store told me they get rid of the old phones the same day.

Nothing I can do about it now

Well, if you call those numbers recently, then you can go to Verizonwireless.com and look them up on your phone bill...

By the way, did you notice that the Curitel site no longer offers the PC Sync software? Makes you go hmmm...

Posted by: FocusOnMBM

I was told the PC Sync software was never offered for the 8900. That it was only offered for one phone model they have.

Yeah, we got out copies from Korean website. One person reported success in the Telus forum, so maybe it's compatible with the Telus 8900.

That's interesting how the store said that they are using PC Sync... I thought they have some super-duper-machine to do the info transfer? Maybe they are going low-budget.

I guess I got "lucky".... hehehe

The curitel site has a new version of the software, version 1.05.

I used this software some days back to xfer/update the phone book.

After taking the upload, phone rebooted, and is working well.

I messed around with some settings of the phonebook with the phone itself, changing groups, etc... No crashes.

Perhaps the version floating around in feb had issues...?

We'll see if this phone is still working a week from now.

This is a problem with this phone. I did it once with the PC Sync software and it trashed the phone. Locked up tight, I tried everything and nothing would fix it. It would get to the boot screen and then nothing except it would reboot every 5 minutes or so.

I took it back to Verizon (it was only 2 days old) Luckily I had done the transfer from the phone to the pc using the software so I had a copy of the numbers.

93 names and numbers to re enter manually. Then I noticed the same problem with the groups, it would say I had 20 in "Friends" and it would only show 5. And bear in mind this was a manual process this time

The only fix was to delete the phonebook and then the groups...in that order.

So far so good but I am only doing 5 to 10 numbers at a time now.

Now I'm wondering if the software on the phone itself is responsible or was it the PC Sync software.

I had a similar problem with my 8900. I had backed up my phone with bitpim, and the phone would not turn on so i could get my old phone numbers.

So when i put the old phonebook file back in i only got as many numbers from my old phone that i had currently in my new phone. So i assumed i needed to make a whole lot of dummy files and that takes a long time.

To speed it up a little i used the new version of the pc sync program (1.05) to make a whole bunch of dummy numbers and send them to my phone. Then I replaced the dummy phonebook file with my backed up phonebook. Next I exported the numbers on my phone to my pc sync program. Then i sent the numbers back to my phone using pc sync, to make sure all the programming was correct. When I looked at my numbers on my phone a few of the names were messed up, like 2 or 3, so I fixed those and saved the phonebook using pc sync again and then sent the numbers back.

After that everything looked in order, and I made sure I didn't turn off my phone during all of this. Although I have been having problems with the ringers from my phone book, becasue I had some of them assigned to ringtones.
