Hello everone - THis is my fisrt post here. I am a total newby to all this GSM and did many searches of the forum without getting my answer (may be i just dont know how to search )

So here go....

I am looking to upgrade my 6800 to the 6820 just because it supports the 900 prefquency (which is what I need in SE Asia). However, if this following claim is true I might not need to upgrade after all.

I just see this auction on ebay claiming " Special Note for International Travelers:

If your cellular provider in the U.S. is Verizon, Alltel or any other NON-GSM wireless provider, this UNLOCKED Nokia 6800 Dual-Band phone will work just as great for your communication needs while traveling outside the United States. Contact your wireless provider atleast 1-2 weeks prior to your departure and ask who are their International Roaming Partners for traveling overseas. This will allow the programming of your SIM card for your cellular number which will activate the International Roaming feature associated to your wireless account. This will also allow the use of your existing cellular number to follow you to over 75% of the planet. That's the beauty of the Nokia 6800 Messaging GSM unit.

SPECIAL NOTICE....This UNLOCKED Nokia 6800 Dual Band phone will only work in EGSM 900/1800 networks in Europe, Africa and Asia "

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...&category=41346

I am totally CONFUSED now. We know the 6800 only supports 850/1900 Mzh. Does the "E" in "EGSM" make this possible???

What is the difference between GSM 900 and EGSM 900 ???
and how do we learn if a certain provider is using GSM and/or EGSM.

To our Mods - this auction is already ENDED - so this is not an advertising in anyway

Many Thanks in advance.

benZer.

There are two versions of the 6800:
the US version (800/1900), and the Europe/Asia/Africa version (900/1800).
