SonyEricsson firmware Update Service not working - what's the deal?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I went online to the SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) to attempt to update the firmware of my new P900... everything went well for a time - I agreed to the terms and the SEUS installer downloaded just fine, bla bla bla, until I got to a web page that said it was checking something, and the web site just froze and did nothing after that.

Is there something wrong with the site or the Update Service?

I have cookies enabled, the phone is hooked up correctly and recognized by my laptop, I have the latest version of PC Suite correctly installed, my phone does NOT have the latest firmware (so an update IS needed), and I met all of the requirements that SonyEricsson listed on their website as necessary in order to proceed with the update process. There were no other programs running in the background, and I had my Anti-virus program temporarily disabled - just in case.

So I don't know what the problem is with Sony's site. I've tried it three times, each time very carefully walking through each step to make sure I did things correctly, and the website just freezes just prior to the update process beginning the long download in order to update the phone.

Does anyone know what might be the problem? Do you think it's Sony's site or is there something I'm doing wrong that I'm not aware of?

Any help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately I can't offer specific help, but I can say it did work for me on Friday night. Even with the weird setup of using Windows XP Pro on Virtual PC under Mac OS X. To my great surprise it worked, although fairly slowly.

Good to know that the many Mac users have somewhat of a workaround.

Download the Netscape browser and use it. I always have issues with IE working. Always get an error at the exact portion of the download you are referring too. Netscape on the other hand will allow you to download with no problems. Something to do with a "Java" issue I have read.....

Has anyone succesfully updated their firmware with internet explorer out of interest?

Only way you can update phone online is if your phones
sim free from network locked servisers

aka (Orange o2) <<< you will have to update it at thy store
as hardware code is difrent to sim free phones
so you will get errors trying to update phone online.

I did an update about 2 weeks ago using IE (running XP with SP1). I tried it with Opera first, didn't work.
