VM4500-InCall Backlight dims but not off

During calls, both our VM4500's main LCD's backlights dims after about one minute ...but never turns totally off. This seems to be a battery drain.
1) Is this a built-in feature? or an issues with both my 4500's
1a) if YES, can I change this so instead of dimming after one minute, the backlight turns off (of course, if I wanted to see something, I can always hit a button to turn it back on, like on most other phones).

yes it is a default setting in 5500 and 8100 that i know of.
dim screen consumes more battery than screen-off of coourse, but i don't think you should be bothered. a little different story but...i tested with my fully charged 8100 leaving it backlight on (not dim), flip opened. 8100 showed 3 bars after 6 hrs.
