P900 bought - my experiences.

I bought a P900 yesterday - here are my experiences and questions.

I have little time, so this is a bit rambling and is in purely random order - apologies:

Q: Can I get the camera etc to save stuff on the memory stick by default? My phone memory is almost full already and manual copying is tedious. Does anyone know??

BUGS: I have the Chinese/UK English version and it has annoying bugs. Set to English but still the folder name "UNFILED" only appears in Chinese! Set keyboard and jot to English but still it switches to Chinese all the time.

BUG? The keyboard locks, or does not lock, when you close the flip. Never able to predict when it will lock and when not.

Also the CD's come up in Chinese and you CAN switch to English but only if you know how "Select language" looks in Chinese (which I do not - I had to guess).

BIG ISSUE: I do not have Outlook but only Outlook express. I hate Outlook and use OpenOffice, not MS Office - but Sony/Ericsson do not supply a PIM. I have NO synching of anything except addresses now., Big issue, meaning my Palm will have to remain my PDA.

Menus are OK. Not as good as the Palm - some here said "users will find nothing lacking" but I cannot accept that: for a power user, this is fairly basic.

User Interface is wonky: takes forever to learn to do some simple things. But you get used to it. But please - Sony, read the standard computer User Interface (UI) books! A popup should always have an OK or Cancel, etc.

Still - it beats carrying two boxes. One is good!

More experiences later

Yep, but this place has their own section for UIQ phones (which includes the P800/P900).

go to communicorder and change on right hand side to a folder on your mem stick (drop down menu) , you will see that the number of shots you can take will go up.

Yes, but I have to redo this often. So every time I start communicorder I need to chech whether it has lost or kept that setting. Is there no way to just default it to the memory stick?

Also, many other settings are often lost, after powering down for instance, including to-dos and agenda points. Which is rather a showstopper for me as I do not have Outlook so cannot synch this...

hmmm strange mine has not moved off my memory card since i set it up.have you directed to a folder on memstick or is it just going to unfiled?

Mine is set to 'unfiled' on the Memory Stick and it goes there everytime now...not sure what is causing the problem for you.

Note that each setting in the camera app can save to a different folder. So for example, automatic setting can save to one folder, while the indoor setting can save to another. This also applies to the quality and other settings for each option. Set each one up and wish and it should stay put. It has been working fine for me.

If other settings are being lost, that suggests to me that there is something wrong - as in, broken, or at least not put together right. I only have a P800 to compare to though.
