Does the charger for the 5300 work for the 5500?

I have the 5500 and the charger looks different than the 5300. I know that the 5300 and 5500 use the same datacable. So will the phone charge thru the data port? The reason why i ask is because i have a data cable from radio shack that doesn't charge and i want to try to do the hack found here. I just don't want to do it if its going to ruin my 5500.

my charging usb cable (5300) works on 5500. My car charger (5300) also works on the 5500. The RS 5300 USB cable works data-wise, but does not charge.

what hack are you talking about? connecting laptop & phone, or something new?

If I venture to guess (maybe wrong), the guy wants to modify the RS cable so that it also charges his phone when hooked up to the phone/laptop. His orig question is to confirm that the USB port on the 5500 works the same as the 5300...if yes, he can take the schematics in the articale for the 5300 and do the diode-thingy...Walla, hook up to laptop, get data and charge phone at the same time.

it should work (the hack/mod)...better yet, just buy a usb/charger cable. Save you some time/effort and chance of messing up.
